Why not ask for a simple registration? What if me or someone else stumbled across a post a week later with some helpful new information and no way to contact Jackson.

Re: my carpet is wrinkled

Unfortunately many people who visit DIY forums only come to seek help. When they find the solution they very often do not return. If they find the registration process too difficult or time consuming they may not bother. With no registration requirement we eliminate that issue and make it easier for visitors to ask for help. If they like it well enough here they will register and participate more. Numbers of members, especially those who do not participate, are not as important as the content left on the forums and elsewhere. It's a win-win for both of us.

Re: my carpet is wrinkled

Sorry I didnt come back to tell you thanks. The pictures were not exactly like my room but they were very helpfull. I rented the tools on yesterday morning and it took all day to do it but it looks 1000% better than before. I cut my finget on the knife when I pressed down to cut the carpet like in the picture. Its hard to remember to keep the finger behind the sharp edge. Maybe add bandaids to the list of tools. HA! Thakyou for all the help.

Holy smokes Jim............. after seeing that stretching diagram you made up, you certainly don't need us here to confuse the guests. Nice work.

Mais contraire Mr. Down I know for a fact that Jim McClain does not know everything and makes plenty of mistakes as he already mentioned in this thread. He needs you and everyone else here. In fact I think we all need each other. I hope that we will be able to offer all of our consumer/diy visitors and members similarly helpful information and advice. This is just one example of successful support. We have many of these in The Professional Forums and I hope we can provide many of these here in the Do-It-Yourself & Consumer forums too.

Macromedia (now Adobe) FireWorks. It was actually a pretty simple drawing to do with a high end program, but I use the program a lot and it was open, so...

Re: my carpet is wrinkled

Probably didn't do it properly but you bought yourself some more time.
So what did the rental cost and how much time did it actually take you?
Was it worth it?

Do you think the directions were faulty? Is there something I can do that might make them better?

Thanks,

Jim

Re: my carpet is wrinkled

I didn't really read through all of your post Jim. Nice job with it though.

Were there any seams that needed to be broken?
Does the hearth cause any problems?
I think someone brought up possible floor vents problems?
Just some issues that may have needed attention.

And finally,
Does an amateur really know how to apply a proper stretch let alone in an area such as that restretch it properly without creating future wrinkle spots? I don't think so but then again many "pros" such as the guy who installed the job in the first place can't handle it either.

When I get a chance I'll reveiw your posts Jim and see if I can offer any suggestions.
Gotta run right now.

Re: my carpet is wrinkled

If Jackson wanted to hire a pro, he wouldn't have come here for advice on how to do it. Maybe it was just a quick fix, so he could get rid of an eye sore for now. He might have plans for something different on the floor in the future, and didn't want to put alot of money in it. Were not trying to make him a pro over the internet, just trying to help him is all.
