installing vinyl bullnose

i just did all my risers with tonge and grove and glued carpet tile in to the tread portion of the stairs and realised that the bullnose im going to use might be a problem. Do I glue the bullnose right down on the carpet do i shave the carpet where the bullnose goes. I would have pulled the carpet over the edge and tacked it under but this carpet tile is thick and it would have looked off. any sugestions?
P.S small words please im a tradesman but not in this trade

Sounds like you bought a bullnose designed to cover hard surface. Bullnose for carpet can be made of wood or metal and nailed over top of carpet or if they are made of vinyl or rubber they have to be quite thick and have a recess for the carpet to fit into. They are installed before the carpet and then the carpet is cut to fit up under the lip.

Re: installing

the vinyl bullnose i have was on the stairs before i started. so i guess i will have to buy new stuff. The metal bullnose that iv seen has such a sharp edge and has a ugly wood pattern printed on it. Of course like every other DIYer went to h.d. or rona. I will try at a carpet place thank you for you help

That's right. I was just calling it bullnose in keeping with the frame of reference from the title of the thread. It's important to use the right terms realflooringguy.
