Off-Gassing
Is there any carpet available that has zero off-gassing?

Any carpet that is not held together with latex. It is a component of Styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR) called 4PC which we know as "new carpet smell".

I thought that "new carpet smell" was the adhesive in the seam tape that was melted during installation?

No, you have that smell even in a drop room with no seams.

I erred (I know this is a shock to all of you!). It is actually 4PCH an abbreviation for 4-phenylcyclohexene. It is one of the few odors the human nose is extremely sensitive to, somewhere in the neighborhood of 4-5 parts per billion is detectable. The longest I have ever seen it linger is 72 hours, most often gone within 24 if there is decent ventilation.
There are no health issues with 4PCH and it has been studied exhaustively by many researchers to verify if there is any link whatsoever.

It usually always has a scent, we just never smell it being around it all the time for years.
Bealieau Carpet has their Magic fresh backing out now, which is "kid friendly".
It's made up of zinc and ions that eat away at common household odors. smoke urine.. anything
You can pour amonia in the carpet and 20-30 minutes later the the smell is gone. They have a little testing kit that goes with it.
Too bad their lines have horrible limited color pallets and their designs are meh.

I knew it was 4PCH but I didn't want to make you look bad and call you out on it.
About 20-25 years ago there was an article in one of the Detroit papers telling people to roll out their new carpet in their new garage for 30 days to get rid of these dangerous oders before installing it. There are still people today that think that because of it. 4PCH is also in latex paint and a whole host of other things like the new smell in your car when new.

We recently had a customer - she has had lots of new carpet direct from mills installed in her home. She purchased an in-stock piece for the bonus room and complained of the smell for some time. I figured it was because it was closed up, no ventilation, but the smell continued even after fans and open windows. Strangely enough, we have also sold off the same rolls to others with no complaints. I can't say this woman was overly sensitive, as she has a lot of new carpet. Am confused on this one. It is getting better, about 6 weeks later. The salesperson and manufacturer rep also noticed it upon going there, so I'm thinking it was something else rather than the carpet?
May have mentioned this before, but my stepdaughter breaks out on her hands if she touches carpet samples. Again, an oddball situation. She's even worked for us to do cleaning in the store, and gets a red, bumpy rash if she touches the samples. She's always been like this, so possibly an allergy to something in the carpet ...

I'm going to assume Kawasaki Syndrome has nothing to do with a motorcycle. It is pretty srange. Her grandpa and grandma own the carpet store and last summer she cleaned for us, but made sure she didn't touch any carpet.

Remembering back in 1999 at the Vegas shows the glow-in-the-dark carpets for kids rooms. That didn't take off - I did wonder what chemicals they'd be crawling on for that effect.

The Carpet & Rug Institute has a Green Label or Green Plus regarding the VOCS off gassing of the carpet Green Plus is the best but a natural fiber like Wool with a Jute backing would be the best I believe little to none. Go with a green plus or a natural fiber

It is actually in the latex binding agent no the fiber or backing material. None the less, I would always advocate a woven wool face if 4PCH is an issue.
