Cool, thanks. I didn't get the whole story but it was a Big Orange salesman. I only did the job because of reputation and the fact that I didn't want a trip charge to come to my friend's new house.

It was a severely budget limited project. Something tells me that most of their flooring budget went into the 1400sf of slate. Or maybe it was the custom cut granite counter tops. Or maybe it was whatever exotic wood those cabinets were made of! Really sweet place for a cabinet maker and a bartender though. Off grid, 2000ft (!) well, hand skinned posts, beams, rails, pickets and TRIM.

Dude went all out to build his family a first class mountain home. Young child, another planned and two big friendly dogs. Did most of it himself, including rigging the giant timber framing. The two central posts are... man, gotta be 16in pine standing three stories tall. He had to take a lot of time off of work so she provided their cash but he built them a great deal of wealth in the 1.5 years it took.

Carpet... not so much of a concern. It's "temporary" in the house.

Try to buy or use the HEPA Canister Vacuums with Powerheads. I used it every time I need to clean my carpet and it was great! It is an easy to use vacuum cleaner.

Let's face it, carpet is a temporary floor for the most part. As for fibers and staining, it seems that unwashed olefins collect the most stains. IMHO.
