New business owner
Hello,
My name is Jay and me and the misses just started our business. We are in over our heads but hell bent to make it work. a little history, I have a strong background in remodeling but have been out of the biz for a few years, worked off shore in the oil field, so hard work is not an issue... the last year and a half has been hell. Divorce, lost job ect ect. Got remarried bothof us having to completely start over ok enough of the soap opera.. We decided were gonna do something together and be ours. I was saying remodeling the wife (Jaclyn) has no experience at all. Green as it gets, but has the drive and determination. We stumbled upon an oppurtunity to contract flooring for a reputable distributor in our area, so we jumped on it. invested all we have, gave up our jobs, and here we are. I have a little experience with all phases of flooring but its limited, and been a looong time. So here we are hoping some of yall will lead and guide us to success... Thanks Jay and Jaclyn

Welcome aboard to the both of you. You say "contract flooring for a reputable distribitor". Can I assume that is installing or is it selling?

All I can say is to ask lots of questions...even the obvious stuff is fair game here. These guys live flooring so they think about it all the time, and many have interesting points of view. I have only been around here for a few months but am definitely a better installer, and business man, for it. Oh yeah, WELCOME!!!!!!

thanks for the warm welcome, we do installations. We have many questions and alot are probably simple but glad to know were welcome. We was worried we'd be mocked or scoffed for attempting our own business with so little knowledge. We know not the smartest decision but we had the oppurtunity and seized it

What are you installing, tile, vinyl, wood, carpet, all of them? Some are easier than others, but all require specific knowledge.

Welcome to the fun......
If I may, If I just got into Installation of flooring, I would be pounding down as many flooring classes as I could. I beleive you are in an area that classes/training are no more than 6 weeks from one course to another.
Also their is a CFI certified Flooring Installer Convention in 2 weeks, that you would consider in going, They LIKES first timers (as I was Last year) Lots of valuable knowledge their.
Plan your course's, some are free, some can be expensive, Knowledge is valuable.
Welcome to to the Trade of being walked on,
Brad
