Re: 1/4 inch cement board

i wasn't sure if it was supposed to be 1/2 inch... though i would guess 1/2 inch could cause problems with doors and everything else....

As long as they are putting a good bed of thinset un der the 1/4 in. you should be fine. They should be putting it on the floor with a 3/8 in. notch trowel under and ontop. Good luck and hope it turns out great for ya.

What kind of fasteners are they using to secure the cement board to the floor?

Re: 1/4 inch cement board

thanks for the information... I will have to get more info on what they plan to do, they haven't completed the job yet...

unfortunately... as luck would have it with my "cursed" home... when they pulled up the tile in the foyer today next to the front door.... they discovered a major water infiltration issue had been rotting the wood under and next to the front door, and I had a nest of carpenter ants that had been living there for at least a couple years. The subfloor literally had holes in it and the wood was deteriorated next to the threshold.

My husband and I are the proud new owners of this lovely home ... we just bought a month and half ago. We are so frustrated.

The tile guy was also able to put a pencil right through the side of the door frame... I can't believe our inspector missed this issue as well.

So now we have to replace the wood around the door frame, we don't know how extensive the problem is or what it will cost.. there seems to be a lot of rotted wood extending out from the frame. The guys felt the door was poorly installed, but I am sure the house not having gutters didn't help either... but it sounds like the door had a pretty shoddy installation. The wood was very damp.... they also suggested that the previous owners probably knew about the water infiltration problem because he noticed the molding at one time had come off and had been glued back. Again, I don't know when that happened or what they may have known....but I am suspicious seeing the other things we have found wrong with the house recently.

I can't wait to see what else comes up.... we had to pay a couple hundred to get the pest guy in to spray and now we have to pay a carpenter to fix the door and hope the ants don't come back... and hope they are not making a nice new nest somewhere else.

I feel like I bougtht the little house of horrors... and it looked so cute....

Well at least I will have nice tile once all is said and done

thank you for your help!

I would check, you may be able to make the previous owner or the inspector pay for the repair.
