Topic: brick paver floor

Here's one I haven't dealt with before, so I'm hoping someone who has done this might have some info for me.

I've been asked to install brick pavers in a kitchen. Would you use the same modified thinset that's used for installing tile?

I'm assuming they're not sealed, and sealing would be in order before grouting, correct?

I've advised the contractor to make sure the floor joists are L/720 for a stone installation, and I figured on using a CBU underlayment.

Any other ideas, suggestions, things to watch out for would be apprectiated.

Re: brick paver floor

if these are wire cut 1/2" brick pavers you can use a unmodified thinset to set the pavers.

we do pavers here outside and on slabs inside and use a regular unmodified to set them, they stick lick crazy.

you can use a modified thinset if you want, but being a porous textured paver the thinset sticks good no matter what you use.

I'm kind of rethinking your post a little here and want to ask you a few questions.

1) what exact type of paver tile are you using ? name, type, etc.

2) you referred to the l/720 for stone installation which leads me to thinking these aren't really brick paver's, or you want to make sure the General Contractor make a solid floor for you.

Re: brick paver floor

I don't think the pavers have even been picked out yet. The contractor told me about this early in the construction stage so he would know whether or not to stiffen up the floor. Not knowing what type of paver we were looking at, I told him to go ahead and make the floor L/720, since it would be easier to do now than when it was actually time to do the floor.

It may be a month or more depending on weather before the house is to that stage. When I have more info, I'll pass it on and get your thoughts and opinions then.

Thanks
