Glass block - Corning - PROVantage system

I put two of these in a house this year. I was real leery of this new system but it is rock solid. These are pics from the Master bath suite. When i first looked at the job there was no framing done at all for the shower and tub deck, so I had to come up with a design and somehow make it all work.

Great job, Jerry. Is that glass block mortar in there or do you use something else with the new system?

Thank you Kevin. I started this thread back in June .... Glass block - Corning - PROVantage system

Here is the link to the different methods of the PROVantage system.... http://www.accentbuildingproducts.co...provantage.pdf

I made a list of questions I had and called their tech support people. They assured me that this system would work for what i had in mind. There is no mortar in these walls. Once up (don't sneeze) you apply a special grout that fills in the joints and locks everything together. It is very solid after about 20 or so minutes. The grout gets packed into lateral and vertical spacers that have grooves on both sides so the grouts goes in the slots and then expands out wider inside the spacer.

Jerry, what did you use between the block and curb to make it water tight, and can a shower door be attached to glass block?

That's ok Peter.........customers name is Moock, pronounced Moak.

Danny, this whole thing is assembled with vinyl spacers and their proprietary tubes of clear silicone. Beads of silicone go on top of the curb and the block gets set into it. After everything is grouted, I used grout caulk where the mud caps roll into it.

Glass doors can be used. I like the frame-less pivot hinge and the side jambs are mounted by drilling holes in the mortar joints and siliconed. This new method is every bit as solid, if not more solid, than the Mortar 11 system.

When I built the first one and was waiting the 24 hours needed before packing the PPG grout in the joints I was thinking.......... there is no way this thing is going to get stiffened up. I worried for nothing.
