"Schluter Kerdi System for bathroom remodel," in the Ceramic and Stone Q&A forum, begins: "Tia,
are you anywhere near Painesville, Ohio ?
I have a buddy at Scottish Tile & Stone that has been ..."
if you were here in Florida I would do Kerdi Installs for you.
I for sure trust Schluter products and my ability to use them.
Without looking, don't know where Painesville is. However, we just had a new tile installer come in last week (new to us, been in the business for some time), and he uses it. He even makes bullnose from tile that has no matching bullnose. Thinking I like him ...
only with natural stone and through body porcelain.
we all have profile wheels these days.
This is my prob - he told me only natural stone, but what I need him to do is for a full-body porcelain. I guess he's never done that, and he argues with me. Keeps telling me the porcelain has a different colored interior, but that is only with glazed porcelain, correct??? My samples of full-body or through-body are the same throughout.
glazed is just that, a glaze on a porcelain tile.
but a through body you can bullnose and the color is all the same.
I made these bullnose pieces with my profile diamond wheel.
did them for the niche and the perimeter of the rest of the tile.
Beautiful work!!! I did think you can successfully bullnose a full-bodied tile. Of course, some men think I'm just a retarded woman, don't have a clue ...
In my opinion, the deco border should have been higher up. For what it's worth.

We have bull nosed plenty of glazed porcelain tiles where the body color is similar to the surface, but not exact, it helps if you polish the edges up through maybe an 800 grit diamond pad.
Its not perfect, but works good for tile base ,shower pan curbs, etc.

I do see a lot of factory bullnose with a different coloration on the top curve, so it all makes sense to me that if you do it yourself there may be a variation.
Nice job, Scott. I like the Kerdi. Did the school (highly recommend it). The pans and curbs work great, and yes, they are a bit costly. They are also mucho quicko. Sometimes, build a pan or Kerdi pan, might be decided by how busy you are.
I went to a Kerdi and Ditra seminar at convention. I was totally impressed, especially when the instructor had a cardvoard box covered on the inside with Kerdi and it was full of water and the box was dry. He explained he has used the same box all summer in seminars. It made me a believer.
It was the last seminar of the convention and we got to take everything that was anchored down. One of the guys got a complete showers system with the curb. I got the flanges for the diverter valve and shower head. That will come in handy as I'm now in the bathroom of my daughters basement part of the remodel.
