Re: Tile Mastic Question

Finally started this job today. Bought some trac metal with rubber insert out of my own pocket. Just couldn't put tack strip down and tuck it in. Hope they like the color. Concrete is so hard it took 6 hours to strip 1/3 of the job. There is no Chemrex, PL400 or non-flammable contact cement to be found. I figured this job tight. If the roll is short, so am I. I need to retire.

Whew, I bid this wrong. Been there 3 days, about half done. Can't hardly find a row. Taking an hour or more to cut a seam and there are lots of seams. Did I mention I need to retire?

Figures, it costs 2-3 times as much as thinset so that would help his commission. Salesmen always know everything
Apparently, I don't. Tired of the stereotyping salespeople. If a customer would be better served by a less expensive choice, or leaving something as it is for the time being, this gal tells them so. Then makes a joke about being a bad salesperson for telling them not to spend more money with me if they don't need to. People appreciate that. It's called a "customer for life".

Rusty, I'm a litle confused, since the thread started about tiles with mastic and now you're talking about the difficulty of installing the carpet itself. Sorry you're having a hard time!!

Tia

Re: Tile Mastic Question

I have walked across those tiles, dozens of times. Carried carpet across and not one loosened. I am surprised. I thought they would come up.

Obviously, the carpet is being difficult though, sounds like!

Maybe the factory way is to straight edge it. I ran into that once and quit trying to row run it because they said to straight edge it.
Have you ever drilled the strip down with the 1/8" carbide bit and alumidrive nails? I think it would be faster.
