SLC repair

DIYer... first SLC pour in a 4 x 4.5 powder room. Didn't work quite exactly.. got a bit of hump and some low spots 1/8" to 1/4" lower than hump. Hesitant to try SLC again. I am putting in 13 by 13 ceramic tile.

I was wondering if I could use something like Henry Patch n'level to fill in low spots and feather out to hump? Or should I try a medium set mortar or thin set (versabond)

First off i will say without seeing your room, I dont know exactly which way I would recommend to correct the "hump", but usually I like to try to correct the big problem before i start patching. If you can rent or borrow a diamond wheel grinder with a vacuum attachment I would try to grind the "hump" area down as far as I could first, then i would probably then consider screeding out some Patching compound for the balance of the area, this would probably be the best way so as to not end up with any height issues at the transition areas.

I would do the same.

Did you pour out most or all of the material in one place, resulting in the high spot there? While it can be a great product on an uneven floor, it needs a little "coaxing" to get it into the corners, and dumping it all in one area can certainly cause a problem.

In other words, SLC's do NOT level themselves. Plus people often get in trouble thinking flat is the same as level. Grind the high spot, fill the low spots.

you workin' it out?

No offense, but I'd like to see the before/during/after of a DIY SLC job "oops". I've never had to do it but I've heard horror stories. Yours sounds pretty mild, honestly.

edit: got confused as to OP. Still a valid post?
