Sealing Particle Board

Hi ~
My kitchen faucet has a leak that I am in the process of fixing. Some of the particle board was damaged but very minimal. I do not think it requires replacing.

How do I maintain this particle board once the leak is fixed? I was told to seal it with "what" I am not exactly sure?? Should I lay some vinyl over the particle board after it has been sealed?

I'm sure you guys have run into this problem many times. What's the solution?

Thanks

Paint it with paint or kilz would seal it.

When I worked with PB, I would seal the PB seams with laquer before fillin joints. It always sealed well...that spray can of laquer ya got out in the garage, as long as it ain't fushia, should work great....
