Undeliverable messages
For the last 2 days I have been getting 20-30/day for error messages for addresses and people I have never heard of. I block them with Cloudmark immediately and don't even look at the attachments but what is this all about? Never had it happen before.

Re: Undeliverable messages
Peter I get them sometimes to but not that many. And they are always a AOL address.that I've never heard of. And it usually reads undeliverable because of a virus. I delete them also.

Re: Undeliverable messages
Peter, I get hundreds every couple of months. My inbox will be chock full of them. It was described to me as a spammer using your email address to send out emails intending to flood spam filters with random words and phrases that help make the blocking of spam harder to do. Didn't our congress do a wonderful job on spam reduction?

Yahoo Moves Quickly To Plug Phishing Hole
Phishing is where you get an email to update you account info on a fake site ..
In your case, looks like someone is using your email address to spam others .. When they spam a bad address , the mail bounces back to you .. Nothing you can go except live with it or change your address ..

Re: Undeliverable messages
I must be rel lucky.......... I doubt that I have ever had 10 junk e-mails in a day. I probably don't average one per day. I might go for 3 days without any, then the next day, get two of em. I have MSN and use hotmail for most of my e-mails. I have a yahoo mailing address too. It rarely gets any junk e-mails........ maybe a couple a month.

They want me to laundry some money from overseas.
A lot of Kings from Africa, all the sudden know me, and want to drop money in my bank.

Re: Undeliverable messages
Sort of Jon , In your case your server was being blocked by Sels isp because a lot of spam was being sent from it ..
In Petes and Daris case , someone is using their address to send spam ..
a good tip is when you go on a site for the first time that you have to register , type in your isp address wrong .. a good site won't accept it
but a bogus site will ..

Re: Undeliverable messages
Read up a little on the problem and I think it is called "spoofing". Now real optimistic about eliminating it- hopefully this jerk will move on to another address soon though! A few ways to get it:
1. Virus/worm on your own computer. Up to date Anti-Virus and Spam software should prevent this.
2. Spammer gets your e mail from someone else who has your e mail address int heir computer and he steals it from there.
Proably some other ways it happens I don't know about, but bottom line is there is no effective way to get your address back form the spoofer once he has it

Re: Undeliverable messages
One of the favored ways of collecting email addresses is to send an email and tell the recipient to forward it to as many people as they can. Somewhere along the line, a spammer gets an email with a whole bunch of good email addresses on it.
I never forward those kinds of emails - jokes, urgent messages, whatever - and I always seem to offend a family member or friend who has a habit of sending these things, or family newsletters and the like to everyone in their contacts when I tell them to take me off their mass mailing list.
Of course, as the admin of a website, I'm allowed to send mass mailings. That's different. Honest, it's in the "How To Be A Webmaster" manual.
