Updates again?

Nick for a long time my old computer is trying to instal Office XP Service Pack 3 I do not have Office. It says try to find instalation package WORDRET.MSI of which I cann't find by searching. It is poaring down with rain here today so I thought I would ask you if you can help. It doesn't really worry me as I just click cancel each time. The reason I updated the computer was that I was having trouble but it was only Nortons causing trouble but it fixed itself when I brought a new computer so therefore I know have two side by side. I could post the older one to Lowdown so he is able to watch videos

Jon , click start > control panel > add and remove programs .. remove ms word .. Now Turn off any anti virus software .. insert your office CD , go back into add and remove programs , click ms office .. In the new dialog box click repair office , then next .. Install Service pack [1] .. If you don't have office installed , and it doesn't show in add and remove look for ms works .. and the reinstall disk is probably on the first CD you have .. Let me know how you make out , or need more help .. Nick ..

What version of windows are you running Jon ? WORDRET.MSI is a word update file , if you don't see ms works in add & remove we can try turning off automatic updates ..

Had a quick look on other computer and it didn't have works in the restore . I might have got discs from the shop I brought computer from as it wasn't factory installed. I think. The computer runs XP. I think I will leave well alone as I only use it for old MS Money files which are on it. It is now a just in case computer. I don't want to kill anything by mistake

You can turn off automatic updates Jon , that is not going to hurt anything , and it should stop asking for that file ..

I will try that next time I have a play with that computer thanks Nick. I will probually be laying a bit low next week as I have to chase some people that owe me for some cash jobs so I have some money to spend over at Australia (do you know where that is, do you even know where NZ is, just kidding) We are going for a social trip for a week next Sunday very early am
