This one looks to me like I don't need it.
MS05-049: Vulnerabilities in Windows Shell Could Allow Remote Code Execution (900725)
Posted: 2005.10.11
Summary:
This update resolves several newly-discovered, privately reported vulnerabilities. Each vulnerability is documented in this bulletin in its own "Vulnerability Details" section. If a user is logged on with administrative user rights, an attacker who successfully exploited this vulnerability could take complete control of an affected system. An attacker could then install programs; view, change, or delete data; or create new accounts with full user rights. Users whose accounts are configured to have fewer user rights on the system could be less impacted than users who operate with administrative user rights. However, user interaction is required to exploit this vulnerability

I am the only one using this computer, so I don't worry about someone coming into the house and messing with the computer.
............ so I don't think I need this update.
Some of the updates mention exploits by remote users, or by remote machines............. I assume all of those are needed.
All these updates (all 73 are old updates) because the computer was restarted with a clean factory install.
New updates are being done automatically, so no worry about that.
I guess I am asking if I only need the updates that mention "exploits by a remote user" ............. or words to that effect. .................... or if i ought to do em all just "because" Some say "critical updates" some say "moderate" and some say "important"
I've already done 10 of the updates by using this site. Much easier than trying to do it through Microsoft. Just click in the number and it tells you about the update, then click "download" if you want to do so.
