Re: Sp3

If updating to SP3 is not recommended on the official Windows upate site, then I would not downlaod and install it from any other website.

Re: Sp3

Agreed .. But it is out there on a lot of well respected sites .. I didn't want any of the members to stumble across it and think it was safe to download and install it ..

Re: Sp3

Service Pack 3 has been on the Windows Update site for, I guess, about a week now. I updated last night while I slept (did a thorough backup the night before). It wasn't finished when I woke up because I had to agree to something first. I took a shower and it was ready to reboot. Looks like it all went very smooth.

Checked the update site after the reboot and there were several MS Office 2007 updates, which took a few minutes and it looks like I'm back in bid-ness.

My recommendations:
  1. Backup your entire system
  2. Set a Restore Point
  3. Update to SP3
  4. After reboot, check for additional updates

The ones that seem to be having the problems are the people with AMD processors ..You should also make sure your computer is free of malware [etc].
If you are going to put it on more then one machine it is a good idea to burn it to a CD , you will save a lot of time .. Me , I'm leaving it alone for now ..

Re: Sp3

I sent my computer to the techy to clean out a box full of viruses and other crap. During the repair he installed SP3 with the IE 7 browser. I had tried out the new browser a long time ago and decided I hated it and went back to IE6. Anyway, now I got it it it seems I am stuck with it. He came to my office and tried to remove it and go back to IE 6. No luck!
Any ideas how I do the deed to get me back to IE6?

Re: Sp3

Haven't a clue. Maybe Nick can help. I would think you could do use a restore point from prior to IE 7 being put on, but don't know if that makes you susceptible to the viruses you got rid of.

My question is, why use IE at all? I switched to Mozila Firefox ages ago and haven;t had any real virus, spyware, malware or or assorted crap in my box since. I do run about five different scans at least weekly, but very little shows up.

Even put Opera on, but prefer Firefox. If you consider a change, it may be worthwhile to use that. It has few enough users that is isn't worth the bother to hackers to go after it.

Re: Sp3

Downloaded Firefox, so far so good. I have XP. I may go ahead and install it on my other 2 laptops after I give this machine a roadtest for a few days. So far I like the layout better than IE 7.
