Just curious as to whether you went ahead with the project and what materials you finally used. Wanting to do a similar project on a portion of my house. Currently have double plywood subfloor under carpeting and padding. Floor joists are maxed out for their span length, so I'll probably need to install some sister beams as I don't think I'll meet the deflection criteria. Anyone have a recommendation on a min/max thickness of concrete that is best? Looking for a stained and sealed concrete finish surface. Any good suitable SLC manufacturers that anyone can recommend? Thanks!

Sorry this is a mushy topic

I just got off the phone with someone that I did not know 3 years ago.

I am a little down right now as most are with the economy. He was so very encouraging!!!! I cannot relate the depth of my appreciation.

But this goes much further...I have found and developed several very deep friendships here. I cannot thank everyone enough!!

I hope I can and have contributed half as much to each one of you as you have to me.

I can only say thank you!!!! And I hope we can continue to be here for each other for as long as possible.

reading polestrech's thread about radiators got me to thinking.we are all different personalities and therefore all have different likes and dislikes. and we all know there are jobs that some guys love to do and some guys hate. so what is your favorite job/task to do and what is your least favorite?
for me I really enjoy doing finish carpentry stuff. baseboards, shoe molding, cutting doors, stuff like that. my least favorite thing to do is vinyl/rubber cove base. certainly not hard to do but to me is very boring/mundane work. especially when lots of outside corners. This last February had a good size commercial job with 600 lin ft of cove base with 72 outside corners. did it by myself one day. my brain was fried at the end of the day:p
so whats your favorite and least favorite???

As we now have an Independent Moisture Testing Specialist from New Zealand I would like to see a friendly discussion about the way different countries test floors for moisture. There must be pros and cons for different methods.
I have always believed that the retailer should be testing the floors as the retailer gives the lay date. What is the point of the layer turning up with the product to install the new floor when the concrete slab is still wet? Why should the layer be testing the floor? What qualifications has he really got to do this testing? In most other parts of the building trade someone independent like the local council for plumbing, power boards for electrical etc will be doing the final testing.
Sorry to put you in the deep end FYI Floors :D

I could hit New Posts...I could search topics(which I find difficult)...I could go down the list and scour the discussions...what other way is there to utilize TFP, maybe more efficiently?

With the heat and the high heat index this summer, I was wondering if you have a time to stop working in the heat?

I recall a few times when it got so hot I had to go to the cool basement of the new homes I was working in.

Now I ride around in the air-conditioned truck and laugh at others sweating on the floor.

Where my son works he said it was 116 degrees the other day. It is in a boiler room for a large building complex in NYC.

I finished my biggest job of the year, today. I poured my first pan, tiled the 9' high, 6x6 shower, ceiling and all, tiled the jacuzzi tub, tiled master bath, laundry, and 2 other baths. I spent 85 hours in the shower alone. I put laminate in the kitchen, and installed 200 yds of carpet throughout the house. The HO while working about 2 miles from home was able to stop in at all hours of the day to visit, discuss scheduling, etc. He has called me countless times to ask questions about grout spacing, seam placement, and curve vs. straight laminate to carpet transition in the "great room". I am so sick of this house. I am so sick of answering the phone.
I got home tonight and the phone is ringing as I walk in. :( It's him, again. I gingerly answered it expecting the worst, a punch list that will take me a week to take care of. He says,"Where the hell are you?" "I was expecting you to be here when I got here!" "I got a check here for you!!!!! Everything looks great AND my mother-in-law needs a walk-in shower built at her house, too. When can you start?" Uhhhh...October. "Sounds great put her down!"

YEEHAW! What was I so worried about?
