Re: What makes a quality carpet
The line I push is WundaWeave and only because it has a great hi pick backing and is all stainmaster and weardated nylons that I believe are the best in the industry. The Backing has a no ripple gaurantee pretty dang cool man.

Re: What makes a quality carpet
No man i am as easy going as it gets. I ask some questions, what are your concerns maybe they sit on thier floor alot and want something soft a tactesse or sorona piece I think is good with some nice 7/16 certified 6lb pad. Maybe they are on a budget real tight on money, I show them a cheap berber and we put 3/8 8lb pad down. maybe they have kids and we talk about color variations and stain protectants nylons vs. polyesters. I normally ask what they like and roll with it. Most women I know dont want a man telling them what they will and what they will not buy. Maybe they want something that will look great and give them something to talk about when their girlfreinds and relatives come over, if thats the case we go wundaweave baby.
And why did we start talking abut the weight of the carpet when selling carpet? that idea is just silly.

Country~ why 6 lb? Why not go with 8 lb all the way. less headaches on restretches.

Re: What makes a quality carpet
Darius,
I notice you are from Davison. I am as well. I go with 6lb bonded because the mohawk reccomends 6 lb rebond. I know a lot of guys who go strictly with 8 lb bonded but i have seen frizzaes and plushes matt over a 8lb I think it doesnt offer enough cushion that is needed when you have a plush carpet. Plus my father when I was growing up in this business sold 7/16 6 lb for plushes and 3/8 8 lb for berbers. We try to get smart sometimes and I think if we just stick with what works we can be smarter.
If you did a glue down would you do a double glue or just straight stick it to the floor?

Re: What makes a quality carpet
I had to replace a carpet job in Davison once. A kid I went to school with someone at my dads shop sold them a sculptured olephin berber over fiber pad and it matted like you wouldnt believe. We replaced it with a nylon sculptured over the 40 oz fiber pad.

Re: What makes a quality carpet
Countryflooringdirect, it's real easy to get a topic off track. Please don't do it. Don't try to carry on 2 or more discussions in the same thread. When people do searches for quality carpet, they shouldn't find a discussion about wheelchairs and hardwood. And vis-versa.

Re: What makes a quality carpet
All this talk about quality carpet, I was just wondering where wool as a fiber and wovens as a construction would fit, if anywhere? I mean like, what happens if a customer comes in asking for wool carpet?

Re: What makes a quality carpet
I haven't seen any wool or wovens since I left KC 16 years ago. Here it is mostly crapet. I would love to see some quality carpet. As far as I know, I don't think anyone here even carries samples.

Re: What makes a quality carpet
So is that what you would tell a customer? No wools or woven around here, OK? No wool or wovens in Rusty's neighborhood, what about yours?

Re: What makes a quality carpet
What an opportunity you would have if you were the only one who offered quality wool carpet in your area.
What does it cost you to carry samples? What does it cost you NOT to carry it?

Re: What makes a quality carpet
Last night I had a carpet salesman tell me when I asked for a Stainmaster carpet that all carpet is Stainmaster now. When I asked why there is no label on the carpet saying Stainmaster, he said that it is because it is not important because all carpet has it.
