Ceramic Tile Odds 'n' Ends

As a regular participant of various Internet forums pertaining to ceramic and stone tile I see volumes of valuable information surface from time to time and I always seem to lose it. Then a search ensues which may or may not be prove productive.

So...
I think I'll just start filing those little tidbits of information here for future reference.

Hallmack Soap Dish Inserts

One question that arises repeatedly is where to find those little plastic soap dish replacements for the popular Hallmack brand of metal soap dish holders.

Here's one source:

(1.) Plastic inserts for Hallmack recessed soap and grabs. We here at Thomas Plumbing in Missoula, Mt. Have the inserts ofr Hallmack soap dishes. They are still available and am surprised no one else has them. Give us a call @ 1-406-728-0216 or faucetman@hotmail.com.

They are on MDT (Mountain Daylight Time)

Here's another:
(2.) You can order HallMack soap trays from McLendon Hardware, [McLendon.com]. The ones I received are an exact match for the originals, though they seem a little lighter weight.

Re: Hallmack Soap Dish Inserts

Bud, I make a folder and name it, in that folder I make other folders to be more specific, in those folders I create other folders that are even more specific, or make WORD files of copy and pasted information, with the source and internet links.

Kinda like the day when we were all starting out as our own businesses, and had a shoebox as our filing system, and upgraded to a filing cabinet, and folders.

Yow thanks.

I have a reason for doing it this way. When I get some time I'll go to my folders and copy what's there to here.

Do-It-Yourself TEST KITS

All too frequently the question of whether or not a particular flooring product contains asbestos comes up. Here is a source for anyone that wants to buy a test kit and see what they are in fact dealing with.

There are also test kits available for mold and lead, and etc.

ACCUKITS, LLC

Click the lab marked "Analytical Fees for Accukits, LLC testing"
Fee is $10.00 for asbestos.

I would ask if they do both the material AND the adhesive. Both should be tested.
Mine brain is a little foggy but I think the material is tested by PLM (polarized light magnification) and the adhesive by TEM (Tunneling Electron Microscopy). As I recall, PLM will identify which asbestos fiber it is which TEM will not. Adhesive can't be tested by PLM.

I didn't see the lab fees tab on the linked page either Barry, but if you go to accukits.com (Their home page), you will find them there.

Bud, is this your own personal filing cabinet or can other members leave little valuable tidbits here?

Join in - anyone and everyone.

I don't intend for it to become an advertising depository for junk offerings but if it's flooring industry related and serves the DIY as well as the flooring trades, have at it.

Re: Odds 'n' Ends

Here's another good one for discontinued tile. It's not just AO. There's also Dal, and many others, as well, and it's an online link that people can order from:

Discontinued Daltile, discontinued American Olean, and others. Specialists in discontinued tile

I've got a LAUNDRY list to add to this thread.... as soon as I get my OWN laptop back, and I can give my wife HERS back!!

Bud-- this was a great idea!!
