Re: anchor away
I've done that a few times myself. I still preferr the toothpicks myself as I'm addicted to toothpicks since I quit smoking 24 years ago.
The hotmelt in the hole works great though. Did you do a test hole and put a nail in and try to pull it out?

Re: anchor away
I bet if you wallered the bit around a little and made it an odd-shaped hole, possibly a little bigger at the bottom than at the top, it would make an even stronger anchor.

Re: anchor away
I'll have to try that. When I need it I don't have it and usually use my pencil.

Re: anchor away
Good tip cp, I have been using hot glue for backing up starting rows on concrete glue downs. I think SK taught me that.

Re: anchor away
I just got to thinking about the using the Kool sticks and making the anchor in the concrete. Well my seat belt on my van broke- the male end has a smaller little bar that keeps the buckle from falling all the way to the bottom of the strap. The smaller part of it broke off. Anyway I took some 1/4" copper pipe and cut it to size filled the ends with Kool Stic and drilled holes in the buckle and put in screws. Works like a dream been there almost a year now and no sign that it is going to let go. They wanted $150 to replace the whole assembly.

Re: anchor away
That is a good "Trick of the Trade". It would be nice to have a section where there are tricks like this posted with no comments (for easy reading)

Re: anchor away
The glue idea is a good one. I will also use pencils if I don't have dowel rod. I also cut tackstrip and hammered it into the holes already.
