Thinking about work is what we do.

I look over the diagram if a job and on the drive I make up a plan of attack for the job. Not only does it make the job easier, it helps to get me psyched up to install after an hour or two of drive time.

Put duct tape over your vinyl seams and tell the customer they have to cure for 30 days. Then leave town in 29 days. I actually went to look at a job where this had been done.

Re: tricks of the trade

Who is standing behind the compatability of the new adhesive over the old? If the PS adhesive was removed wouldn't it be easier to move the Enhancer around? I have used dependable white patch on bare concrete to slide things around but not on old sticky adhesive. I see where you are coming from with the air movement underneath but I would not risk spreading the new adhesive over the old residue.

slippery trimmer

Hey dudes, figured something out today doing 100 yds in house with freshly painted white base boards. Didn't want to do job until the paint had more cure time, but was talked into it. Trimmer shield wasn't in top shape so I took a piece of self adhering velcro and adhered the fuzzy side to the edge of my trimmer and WALLA! No scarring allday not even a faint scar, I mean NADA! I will never use anything else again and after 100 yds the piece of fuzzy looks brand new. Now who's the smart guy?

Re: tricks of the trade

dont know if this tip will help anyone in the us but may for uk fitters if you find using a z plate (carpet to laminate) is too high get a dual grip (carpet to carpet) and use your pliers to rip one side of the spikes off, this will make a shallow z plate so no rocking works great and no rocking, hope this helps

But can't you just take a rubber mallet to a Z plate, to close any height differance, the Z just collapses down on its self, i was under the belief, that it was designed this way.

EDIT
contest points=86

Re: tricks of the trade

yeah it was the big selling point when it came out poor quality metals didnt help you can only tap down a mm or two before it looks distorted also if the plates already positioned in the door the plate wont tap down in the archatraves, found this way a lot simpler and more secure

You guys are great! I don't have time to read through all of these right now, but has anyone mentioned a leaf-blower? Can you guess what it is good for? Tia

Post #5 if you read from the first page, do you always talk this much? A leaf blower is for blowing leaves.

Re: tricks of the trade

I know a blower can be used to lift carpet... I don't do carpet. But I do carry one to blow off my cut-site, my tools and myself at the end of the day
