That bar scribe is a thing of beauty.

I would think you would have at least one in your arsenal.

Re: Marmoleum installation basics

Used to use one years ago until a guy really cleaned me up cutting out a piece of vinyl using a pattern. We were doing identical units. Have found that by making a pattern its more accurate and a lot quicker. You are not realigning up the sheet 3 times to scribe the 2 ends and the then the length Though with straight cuts and large open areas a bar scribber works. Sometimes I will use a bar scribber on timber type underlayment

The one in that video is much better designed and constructed than the ones I have.

This is the one I always carry but rarely use.

Like Jon says it's faster for me to pattern the whole room in most cases than to be shifting the goods around for the dividers or bar scribe. In commercial I'm usually coving 6" so a pattern is essential. On flat lays just about everything gets rubber cove base so we can hack it all in. I have two of the Armstrong Universal Scribers which can be assembled into a pretty good bar scribe but they sit in storage.

Did yours come as a part of the training/certification process or did you buy them through a distributor. I still need to buy a Forbo selvedge trimmer so maybe I'll get that bar scribe through the same source.

I got mine though Forbo direct. I bought the underscribing tool they make, the edge trimmer (you will love this tool!!!!), the bar scribe, and the groover.

Forbo will sell to listed mechanics (associate and mechanic) directly.
