Carpet to tile transition on a concrete floor
This video has so many things wrong I don't think I can list them all.
I hear the customer (or some lady, anyway) say "be careful" and [the repair tech] cuts through the old carpet right on top of their new Travertine floor.
He says to make sure the floor is clean first, but no vacuum or even a broom was used.
[He] uses Chemrex® CX-948, but doesn't allow any discernable set or curing time. It doesn't matter, I guess, because he doesn't actually put any tension on it by needlessly stretching the carpet. ( Chemrex CX-948 Specs)
He cuts the pad in place, but uses no adhesive that I can tell and doesn't even tape the pad seam. It appears to just be loose there.
Again, there's absolutely no attempt to stretch the carpet. The knee kicker isn't even bumped hard enough to do much of anything. And he doesn't even bother to use the kicker along the wall adjacent to the tile.
The last part just made me laugh. I won't give it away. [deleted]

At least there's a lifetime warranty on the job.

Life time guarantee my ass. If there was any truth to that he would be bankrupt by now.
Got to love all the metal tools clanging off of the new tile. And why did he even have a kicker out? Even way back when I was a kicker jockey I would have laughed at that.

I watched it twice, trying to find something he did right. Nope, couldn't find anything.

My favorite part is the end when he uses his white man tomahawk to pound the carpet into the tack strip...destroying the strip and making the carpet pucker. Hehe. This is pretty amazing. He got his check and he's on to the next job. The thing about repairs is you can get away with a ton because you're making it look better and in the end 95% of people don't really know what a good installation is, they just don't want to see a seam. Oh wait, that's in a different video...

hahahaha needed a good laugh today i would of drilled and drived the strip, adhered the pad, lightly powerstretched it,tucked it. then ask customer to take a look( i know my work is excellent just like to hear it) then get check then say "thank you" "have a good day" then go to next job thats a quick $100.00 depending on attitude of customer hehe

Lol at clean where the tack strip goes I wouldnt call scraping your hand once cleaning but thats just me.
I see a nail driver, when did he use that?
Top cutting against tile? H A C K
Tucking to a bare tile edge? No Schluter?
He would have got a phone call from me. Asking why my rug was all dimpled
This guy should not be making videos on how to as much as how not to.

Mike,One thing I can say in his defense is that the schluter should have been installed by the tile setter. He'd have probably installed it upside down.

Heh, very true.
Seeing that,he sould have used a transition piece instead of tuckin it with his molly hatchet.

Even then he was dropping blades and tools on the tile, too funny.
I wonder who the intended audience is for a video like this?

He said this about another video:
The point of the recording was to show customers the before, a little during and after the repair.
...
The video is not directed towards professionals. Pros don't need my video. The video is directed towards the average homeowner so that they can see generally what to expect.

Would I be wrong in assuming this applied to just about all his videos?
Too many consumers don't know what we know. They see a tool and think it's being used properly - after all, the guy is a pro, isn't he? Tools they don't see, like a stretcher, go unnoticed because they aren't familiar with them or don't understand that when you pull a carpet off the pins, you lose some of the stretch. They may not know the pad has to be adhered or taped to keep it from shrinking away from the seam or the edge of the tackless, especially in a busy traffic zone. Maybe they think the pro wouldn't damage the tile when cutting on top of it because they know exactly how much pressure to put on the knife - didja see the pad get sliced through too?
Some people defend this guy for being an innovative business man. I criticize him because this seems [unacceptable to me]. [deleted]
