Looks like that is a tough product, he was really going at it with his trimmer. And since you brought it up, what do you do different???

I actually weld the flat areas with the speed tip on, and leave tag ends long enough to reach the to of the cove, remove my speed tip, turn the heat down, and weld with just the pencil tip from the bottom up. I do this because I can see what kind of weld I am getting as it comes up to the top. Also I do not trim until it has completely cooled ( 30 min approx).

Anyone can weld out in the wide open, clean, well lit rooms like that. He should give his demonstration under one of those extra deep toe kicks. Under 500W halogen lighting with ladders and extension cords covering 80% of your floor and everyone's crap on the other 20%. Let's see how sweet and easy he can make that look.

Good video though. That's pretty much exactly how I do things. Sometimes I'll go up the miters as opposed to working from the top down but it's all the same when it's done. I "blend" in the rod a little differently on each type of goods due to the different types of materials and finishes.

I noticed the floor had specs in it . does the weld blend into it so as not to see the weld lines ?

Those specs are metal that is in the material, it is a saftey floor for traction in wet areas etc. The weld does show and is not multicolored. Talk about going through blades this stuff eats them alive.

Altro floor is a great product. One of the few that are out there that I will recommend to customers. If I had one thing to complain about is it is darn hard on your tools. Until you work with it you have know idea. I have a set of hand tools just for Altro. But like I said it is a great product.
