That's cool. I've always wondered how it was done. It would be a kick to go there and watch it for a day. Interesting. Thanks

I really had no idea how they made the embossing. Cool find.

This is a video of Rotogravure vinyl. Inlaid and homogeneous are made by different processes.

I have been to plants for all three and they are quite interesting.

Found the comment about linoleum being "obsolete" quite amusing...

I caught that one too Peter, We both know that was not a well thought out statement

I've seen this on discovery its goooooood i especially like the part about the Englishman in 1860 who invented Lino yay. But then the damn germans came along with vinyl. They did do a Lino one on how its made that was good to i have been to Forbos plant and seen this done its amazing. Perhaps we should all take note at what goes into the products we're installing and the sheer volume they produce and perhaps we can beter understand how sometimes there are mistakes in the quality and not whine about it to much.

I am reviving this topic because I was informed (thanks Jon) that the video is no longer available because the person who posted the video on YouTube was in violation of international copyright laws - repeatedly. So, unfortunately, the video above doesn't work. I've spent some time looking for a replacement (one that was legal), but found no videos. You can purchase the video presentation produced by the Discovery Channel here: How It's Made: Architectural Moldings, Pulleys, Industrial Rubber Hose, and Sheet Vinyl Flooring DVD - Discovery Education Store.

I did find a couple of websites that had other information about how vinyl flooring is made:

How is vinyl floorcovering made?: Information from Answers.com

How Vinyl Flooring Is Made - From the WFCA Site

I hope that some of you reading this will try to find a video pertaining to how vinyl floors are made or any web page that describes the process.

Thanks and sorry for any frustration this may have caused.

Thanks for that Jim
I stumbled across that video not working as I am trying to get a guy from NZ to join the site by showing him what great information TFP has
He says he is to busy to look so I am trying to nudge him a little
