Kind of odd new-construction question (and a little rant)

What's the scoop on job-johnnies? Are there any laws regarding porta-potties on site, like how many per average # of workers or size of site, etc ...? Seems in a regular workplace like an office or factory, a certain number of facilities would have to be provided depending on number of people on the premises during each shift. I would think even an atypcial job location like a construction site would still have to meet some requirement in that area?

I ask because one of the sites we work in is huge but job-johnnies are few and far between. At this point, there is actually only one. Considering that throughout the day, there must be hundreds of different workers on site, all the various trades working on various units in various stages of done-ness, just seems to me the builder ought to have to provide more than one portajohn.
It's a real inconvenience to have to get in your vehicle and drive to the one john provided. I'm not saying there should be one for every unit or anything, but in my opinion, if you're standing in front of a unit and there is no jobjohhnie within your range of vision, then there aren't enough of them. (What if you're new to the site and don't know where that one john is? If you have to drive around and look for one, there aren't enough.)
Granted, as a woman this is more of a problem to me then for men who can relieve themselves quite unconspicuosly just about anywhere, but even so, men do have well, needs that can't be handled that way.

So what say you all? Has this kind of thing ever been a problem for you males and are there any laws covering the situation? (And don't worry, I'm not planning on making a stink over this, just want to know for my own curiousity.)

When I took the contractors test in CA 25 yrs ago, it was 1 john per 25 workers and there was a distance requirement too. I just don't remember what it was.

JustWood, this link may be helpful. As we were a WBE in the 70's, your concerns are very valid. We had several female apprentices and journeymen and I have had to fight for just what you are asking for. It is sad to me these common sense things are still not provided for on sites.

In NC it depends on the county you are in. I usually know if there will be a john on site based on where it is.

Sometimes you will see one in Missouri on a commercial job. But I have never seen one on a residential new construction.

Thanks, Pete. Even though we're subs so a lot of that doesn't apply to my situation, it was very interesting.

This suggestion here cracked me up:

The design of PPE and PPC for women should be based on female measurements.
Whoda thunk gear for women should be designed to fit women? LOL.

Ask any illegal immigrant here where the tiolet is, and he will open the unfinished bathrooms door with his fingers on his nose to expose a full tiolet(no working water) and about half the tub full of crap, with flies everywhere.

I used to run in to that a lot back in Ca. when I did a lot of apartments. It made me glad I wasn't a vinyl guy, I could at least shut the door to those nasty things.

If you've ever wondered about the correct pronunciation for the word 'pecan' this will help. A 'paah-con' is a nut used in deserts and pies. A 'pee-can' is something left on a job site with too few port-o-lets.
