dance floor
I don't know many details about this job but I was asked what would be the best floor for a dance school. Evidently, there are definately high heels.
I am at a loss.
I suggested Assurance or comparable (inlaid, heavily textured)
I also suggest Brazilian cherry or comp. but it is on slab.
I also suggested stained and polished concrete.
Did I miss anything? (okay, I know I did, but how many options?)

Re: dance floor
They reckoned the old 6 finger timber strip about 6 inches square was the best a few years ago It had to be solid to give the spring

Re: dance floor
The Kiwi is right on this one. Parquet performs very well as it is all quarter sawn and holds up much better than plain sawn. A very dense exotic may minimize heel marks, but you will be getting some with any wood. Ladies do love to dance in their high heels... I too love to watch those ladies dance in their heels
Concrete is awfully hard on the feet for dancing although some of the stained and polished jobs are great to look at.
If this is joint with a mosh pit, concrete would probably be the way to go though

Re: dance floor
Had a customer a couple of years ago, had a ball room type dance room on the 3rd floor of the house. For parties and whatnots. We put in Khars floating wood from their builders collection, and put the quietest underlayment we had under it. She could replace it 3 times for the cost of some other quotes she was getting. But after 2 years she said she has been very happy with it. No damaging scars and not as loud as she thought it would be.
Now I personally haven't seen it, but she says it still looks good.

I was going to suggest the same exact thing. I just looked at a water damage repair this morning, for that exact flooring. 6" finger block parquet.

Re: dance floor
Parquet wood is the most traditional for a dance floor. Since your over concrete and heel marks are a concern. I would go with a faux granite / marbelized VCT with a nice high gloss Polish. It will look classy dancing on stone. Product and install would be inexpensive. Maintenance is a breeze. No worry of the marks as much.
Something thats a bit higher end, should hold up, and can look cool is Amtico products. That will have no waxing / polishing needed. Its dent resistent. You can get a wood like product, do a herringbone pattern and it will look phenomenal.

Amtico also has stone look products
Anyway obviously my vote is for amtico, love the stuff

Re: dance floor
Thanx Gh
I have passed this on.
Didn't know, but I guess this is for exotic dancers. I guess they want a light wood.
They wan to go with the cheapest and who can install the soonest.
It won't be me.
