What flooring to put on 3ft X 3ft landing

I installed floating laminate on my family room floor. I have a small landing leading to the basement , about 3ft X 3ft X 4ft. I don't know what to put on it. The family room is sunk 1 step deep. I want to put the same laminate as the family room floor. I'm concerned that a small area like that will move around when walking on it. I would want to orient it like the floor, then I have to come up with a way to put a stairnose on also. All tongues would be cut off at the riser. Any suggestions?

Since the steps are finished wood, I would go with wood flooring in that tiny landing.

The hardwood strips. Can I glue them down?

The wood flooring seems like a good idea to me as well... if it is very high traffic from kids/teenagers/animals/etc, you may want to make sure you have something that will be more durable...

Hardwood would be a nice contrast but doing the landing and tread in the laminate would work well too.

It really doesn't move around that much, just don't leave as much expansion and/or glue the material down.
