should I use self-leveling underlayment

I'm redoing the floor of my kitchen in a very old house. It's 130 sq and has around 1.5" to 2" slope from one end to the other. I'm planning on installing slate tile. Should I use the self-leveling underlayment or shoud I level as I go using the mortar?

Thanks for the help

Joe
