I am not a ceramic installer, but I think they are afraid the residue would keep ceramic from adhering.

CFD-Paint thinners, and removers are flammable at least most I have seen are.
I also thought of sand blasting but shot blasting would be best.
I'm kind of curious as to why the poster is either scared or don't want the best ways to do this?

Typically the residue from paint or adhesive removers interfers with the thinset bond as Rusty said.

Then of course there are the dangers of using chemicals as Daris pointed out as well as the mess and the need to then clean the residue off. It can get very time consuming compared to mechanical methods and of course time is $$.

I know nothing about them , but why not one of those floating ceramic floors? Or are they not any good?

They would work Rusty. Avaire or Snapstone would work if they have a style you like.

You need to have the floor very flat though and depending on layout aren't all that easy to install. Doable but not as easy as they would like you to believe.

I wouldn't call installing them hard labor just trickier to install than they would lead the diyer to believe.

Ive done maybe 5 or 6 QuickStep and Mannington NatureForms tile patterns. They will fool you in a heart beat and if you shoot down a hall or through a doorway you have to know where everything is going to fall. Not like ceramic tile when some of these planks come in 47" lengths.

Avaire- Elegance Evolved

Avaire or Snapstone are porcelian tile not laminate.
You do have similar issues as a tile laminate install though Jerry and it is even fussier on the flatness requirements.

Re: How to get rid of paint on concrete floor

Thanks for all your help.

I have taken a look at the floating ceramic floor. Sounds really easy but my basement floor is not as level as it should be for this product.

It dips in a couple of places because there are two traps.

I think I will be removing the paints with a cement grinder of some sort.

Thanks again for all your help.

It's nice to gain some knowledge from all you great experts.
