Marmorette linoleum in small bathroom

I am considering installing Armstrong Marmorette in a small bathroom with a floor space of approximately 6' X 6'. On one side It will butt up to the existing tub/shower with no chance of getting the flooring underneath the tub. There is a wood subfloor that had a vinyl sheet flooring previously. The vinyl flooring was caulked where it met the tub.

My Questions.....

How can I protect the edge where the marmorette meets the tub to avoid any water seepage? Could I caulk it?

Do I have to use the floor adhesive in such a small space or can I just dry lay it or adhere it at the perimeters (or some other way?)

Many thanks,

Susan

TFP,

Cp is copin an attitude again. Time to take him out to the old wood shed for a whoopin!

My two cents worth is to use the two part epoxy and it wont go nowhere!

I assume she wants a serious answer guys (hey that was fun, I've never used the poke)

Epoxy is definitely overkill in a small residential bath. Use L-910, pattern/template it precisely and, yes, caulk it at the tub. We all do.

Hi Susan.

This isn't a flooring that you can consider laying down in a toilet without adhesive. Next to a shower you're going to get expansion as the heat and humidity swell the material and when it cools and drys up the floor will contract. I like the idea of a 2-part epoxy that another member suggested. When I do this type of work I "pattern scribe" the area and then full spread and allow a little tack to develop in the glue whether it's the multi-purpose or epoxy. These are not products made to tolerate a great deal of moisture. You should go with a ceramic tile or stone in a toilet/shower area.

Sorry, I can't agree. Linoleum has been used in bathrooms for decades. Heck lino paste (water soluable) was used to hold it down for years. Unless your kids play pirates and swab the deck, you will be fine. I have down literally hundreds of bathrooms both residential and commercial. Epoxy is espensive, hard to work with, and made for wet areas (really wet, such as produce areas in grocery stores where the misters come on every few minutes and spray the floor as much as the produce, and areas where static [heavy] loads are constantly rolling across the floor), more or less commercial applications.

But a residential bath is not the type of 'wet' area under discussion in the book.

No, I was talking about a normal residential bathroom.

You're right about linoleum being laid in kitchens and baths for many generations successfully with nothing but that old lino paste. It's a relatively inexpensive choice. My experience is primarily with commercial applications. Even on big jobs where we lay tens of thousands of yards the rest rooms are ALWAYS done with ceramic tile. That just makes more sense to me.
