Mohawk Tommy

I thought I would share this with you to see if any of you have seen this before. It originally hung in my parents floorcovering store back in the 70s. My dad keep it all these years and found it last week and gave it to me. Kinda cool!

Re: Mohawk Tommy

A friend of mine has one. His brother gave it to him just about 2 weeks ago; I had never seen one before, and now I've seen a second one. Really cool!

Re: Mohawk Tommy

Ya its Tommy Mohawk. I had a friend that did work at Mohawk and his name was Tom and that was his email address.
I also had a decal of him on the hood of my snowmobile back in 1970.

Re: Mohawk Tommy

My grandfather told me Mohawk Tommy has been around since the 30s or early 40s. When I was a kid, late 50s, my dad brought home a stuffed Tommy doll. They have used it for promotion for a long time. At one time (not sure when), it was one of the top ten most recognizable corporate logos.

There was a time, pre-Stain Master, when mills realized the value of brand recognition. Seems that everyone (except maybe karastan & Armstrong) have lost that understanding. Remember the old ads: "A title on the door rates a Bigelow on the floor?"

Re: Mohawk Tommy

I remember seeing Tommy, but have no recollection, or association, as some may say, with the company.

Re: Mohawk Tommy

I understand the native american stance but sometimes they go overboard. They complained about the KC Chiefs, but their name came from Mayor Davis who was nicknamed "the chief."

Just an old, worn out, part time, crapet layer.

Re: Mohawk Tommy

Before I ever got into floor covering (13 years now), we had a store in town with a HUGE emblem of this in their front window. The owner passed and the store has been gone for quite some time, but I will never forget that huge pic in the window.
