Thanks for the info. I've never heard of dyeing one side of the carpet. Seems like it would be quite the process haha.
We had a piece of Masland commercial goods that had a sidematch problem. Masland had it dyed and I was impressed with the results. Fixed it right up.

From what I have heard you mix the dye, mask the seam so you spray the right side and use an airbrush to feather the dye out on the bad side. Sometimes have to spray twice to get the right tone to make it blend into the other side. I have seen before and after pics that were perfect blending.

A tad more complicated than that but close enough. I switched to an HVLP sprayer after talking with Mike a few times. The air brush is only for short seams. I also wind up spraying 2-3 times. I'm not good enough to hit it on one application- too much fear- take it too dark and your dead in the water (or dye).

You guys are gooooood! Exactly on the mark. The tighter loops show more of the white design elements and the looser loops show more of the dark cranberry background. The face also shows rougher on the looser side and this will create additional shadowing.

Next question is "Do you think this could be color blended?"
To my eyes, it looks like the lighter color is slightly recessed creating a texture. If that's the case, how would color matching work? From daytime to evening, to night time, the shadows would change appearance............... and I'm guessing it's hard to blend in the shadows unless you only want the carpet to look correct at one particular time of day.

What feather blending in essence does is fool the eye. Even with excellent color discernment (and most men do not have it!), our eyes can readily be "tricked" regarding color.
