Paint over asbestos tile floor?

We moved into an old house last summer. Our basement is not finished, but is partially covered in vinyl tile. I'm 99% sure that some of that is asbestos tile (9x9) and is really old. The tile around the drain on the floor is coming up. But the rest is in decent condition.

I'd like to have a play room down there for my infant daughter.

Now, I know that I could hire someone to come in a moon suit and remediate the asbestos. But I've also heard that, as long as it's covered, it's ok.

My question is, what's the best way to cover it on the cheap? Can we just paint over it with that epoxy paint (and use some sort of chemical primer underneath)? Could we use a self-leveler product under it to smooth it out before painting?

Thanks in advance!

Why not just loose lay some cheap carpet over it. I'm sure the little one will like that better than cold floor.

Asbestos is dangerous when it's "friable" e.g. floating in the air. Searching for that term will help you determine a healthy course of action.

You can "encapsulate" it with a portland cement based floor patch, like Adrex SD-F.
