Hey guys - these appear to be some great forums. I'm hoping you guys can help me out!
We've got a baby on the way and would like to rip up the old carpet in the soon-to-be nursery and put down some wood flooring. We're not set on Bamboo but that's what we're looking at right now and most likely going to go for. Our price range is ~$500 or so.
I've been looking at Lumber Liquidators website and we've found a product we like and is likely within our price range. They have Morning Star 5/8 x 3 3/4 Carbonized Bamboo for $2.59/sq ft. Here is a link to the product on their website.
So, is that a good product? Not sure if my geographic location has much to do with how the wood will perform or not (I'm a noob to this) but we're located in northeastern Oklahoma.
The last(thank god) morning star I did, it was a chore. The flooring equalized to different widths after acclimation. Meaning you had to play with skinny board so it wouldn't have a big huge gap(split the difference, and fill!!!!)
When I was finished, it looked excellent, with some color variations, but I had nightmares worrying about wrap arounds.
So you would say I'd be better off looking elsewhere or at other bamboo products then I suppose? Can you name a couple that may be within our price range? We can flex a little on the price range if need be.
Buy a bamboo look laminate. You'll be happier with it in the long run.
real bamboo isn't as hard as they try to make it out to be. The comparisons to being as hard as oak are a joke.
I bet Nick could figure it out, Scott. Can you bring it up in the computer forum? Just let him know what browser and what operating system you're using.
Be more then happt to fix it for you
stullis , just post what T said in the computer forum , so others with the same problem may benefit from the post .. Nick ..
The laminate floor is a good idea, but our store sells more solid vinyl plank than laminate. It is a great floor for diy and easy very easy to care for. There are several bamboo patterns as wll as tile and wood looks. The ones we have the best luck with are Earthwerks (yes that is the way that it is spelled), Nafco and Adura by Mannington.
Thought about recommending the vinyl as well but I don't think he is going to find it in the $2.60/ft range. Also he will most likely need underlayment or prep plus the cost of the glue on top of the material cost.

hmmm, Is Laminate a renewable natural resource?
Seriously Laminate bamboo just sounds tacky in my opinion. People look to bamboo because of environmental benefits as much as the look.
As far as it not being as hard as Oak....well, if you stay away from the carbonized it should perform pretty well.
Environmental benefits??... marketing phrase often used to raise the price of a product
In this case do you think is is the "environmental factor" or is it the "economic factor" that is influencing Seth. My guess is the latter.
Not that there is anything wrong with that but just so he has real expectations for product performance.
It will perform, just expect indentations. Carbonized is worse than natural but neither is as resistant as oak from my experience.
One must learn to separate marketing rhetoic(BS, just for Jim ) from real life fact.
I'm looking at Bamboo for both enviromental and economic reasons. If the price I've mentioned is not possible to get good bamboo then tell me what price I will need to spend on it to get something good. I'd rather have real wood over vinyl or laminate. Also, are there other types of wood we should look at that may come in at that price range?
