Has anyone experienced a problem with BR111 engineered flooring with the finish peeling up? The floor is less than two years old and it was installed by a professional flooring firm. We used only the recommended cleaning product and nothing else. It looks like the finish is getting air pockets first, then the pocket breaks open, then the entire finish of any given board peels off like old fingernail polish. At first it was just a board here and there but now approximately 25% of the floor is showing signs the problem. The floor type is one of their newer exotics, and flooring forensic fellows have ruled out moisture as the cause. I am guessing it's a question of too much oil in a less than totally dry wood rising to the surface. I love the floor and this breaks my heart but unless I can understand what happened, I don't know how to proceed. Surely this is not very common or BR111 would be losing money replacing floors. Oh, and BR111 has gone silent for several weeks now - which is very disconcerting. Any ideas on what might have happened and why? Your comments will help me figure this out...
Hello, it sounds like a build up of cleaner that is layered on top of the floor that is peeling off. I just saw the product installed in a house and doing Kahrs and Quikstep myself, I wasn't impressed with the br111 product, very thin laminated wood. I had a lino job I did and the customer called one day and said that the top was coming off the vinyl floor, turned out that she was putting on her hairspray there and the overspray built up on the floor to the point that it was flaking off. So that is why I say what I say but if it is the top coat of the floor some of the wood guys here will know. Is it over radiant heat?
I just had to replace a br-111 board where the top veneer peeled loose. I have never seen anything like this before except for flooded floors. When I peeled it up there wasn't really any sign of a glue residue. It was 5 inch santos mahogany. The rest of the floor was fine no gaps or cupping looks like the day it was installed(about a month and a half ago). Builder says the A/C has been running. Moisture and humidity were all fine when installed. it was acclimated. So I'm clueless on the cause except for manufactured defect but why hasn't it done it earlier? If anyone has any suggestions for the cause or has experienced anything like this let me know.
This was my first time using br-111. I'm not a fan of br-111 the finish seems very sensitive and they dont give enough sizes in the boxes. I think there was only 3 or 4 different sizes. This problem makes me like the material even less.
First of all who were these floor forensic experts. We can guess what the problem is and never solve your problem. You need a certified wood floor inspector to inspect the floor and tell you what is really going on. The way you describe the progressive deteriation of the finish, my guess there is moisture involved in this issue. Now you have one more guess and no conclusion. BTW welcome to the board.
