Hardwood floor burn finish
I'm watching HGTV's " Amazing Log Homes" and they had an all too short segment on burn finishing hardwood flooring. I'd never seen that before. The hardwood guy took a propane torch and gently burned just the lifted grain of the flooring and it looked absolutely beautiful. Burning the hardwood floor was instead of stain and it was not too dark because it was just the lifted grain. Not sure, but the flooring might have been yellow pine. I imagine because of its softer density and pronounced grain. After burning, I guess they coated it with urethane or something (I hate when they don't go into details).
I did find a site that offers pre-finished hardwood with a burn finish ( Kesar Styles / Modern Flooring - Hardwood), but it didn't offer any information on the product. Have any of our forum pros done burn finishing in hardwood? Can you talk about it some?
Thanks,
Jim
