Re: First time installing laminate, want to do it right
Looks real good. Also looks like you had some good help holding down those planks in the second picture there.

Looks good. And you are right about knee pads. I haven't limped since I gave up doing ceramic tile.

Quite an accomplishment for your first time. Looks very nice. Will there be a second time? Maybe the master bedroom or the den?
Thanks for sharing this project with us.

Looks great!!
What is there about a new floor either the dog or the cat has to be the first one to lay on it. Are they reserving their territory?

Re: First time installing laminate, want to do it right
Thanks for all the kind words. There will be future projects, as eventually I'd like to redo all 3 bedrooms. Originally it was a "we'll see" sort of thing, but now that I've SEEN what it looks like under the carpet padding (many years of dirt, dust, and lord knows what else) I really can't wait to replace all of it. However, I think the sheer size of this project has traumatized the husband a bit, so I'll have to wait until the memory fades some before I suggest doing another room.
On the plus side, the bedrooms are all rectangles, no funny angles or hallways, so it should be easier the next time. And now I own all the tools
And yes - the dogs and cat all made themselves comfortable as I was trying to get this done. I wouldn't have cared as much if they didn't insist on shedding as much as possible all over the floor & underlayment every time I turned my back. There was a lot of sweeping and vacuuming going on!

Now would be the time to keep going while all the little things you learned while it still fresh in your mind won't be forgotten. Also you only have to clean the mess once.

Hey now, I pulled up 350 sq ft of old carpet and padding, 70 linear feet of baseboard, and endless miles of tackstrip myself. I then proceeded to install 350 sq ft of laminate planks and 70 linear feet of new baseboard, again, myself. I need to leave something for my husband to do!

Hey you done real good there. Ya know how us husbands are, we have priorities like golf [not me], fishing, hunting, football, ya know those sort of things. Now women, God Bless Them, they cover everything else we don't do.
I'm just funnin with ya, the job looks really great. Have a good St. Paddies Day.
