Transition between Rooms

I have a 12' x 15' dining room adjoining a 15' x 19' living room. The two rooms are connected by a 5' doorway.

I am putting in 3/4" solid oak hardwood (3.25" strips) in both rooms.

I would like to go from one room to the other without a T transition strip in the doorway. The manufacturer recommends all connected rooms should have an expansion gap in the doorway with a T transition on it.

Is this necessary for a 5' doorway? If so, should the expansion space be 0.75" or 2x0.75" = 1.5"? The manufacturer does not detail this.

Thanks for any suggestions!

Best Regards,

Bruce

There is always risk involved in not following manufacturers guidelines. I would call the manufacturer and speak to the technical Dept and explain your question and see what they tell you to do. I would do it without a transition myself but i also recognize when I do that, that I am accepting the responsibility for the install too.

I am planning on using Dubeau Prestige Series. Although the information on transitions is from Trillium hardwood flooring installation guide.

I have sent an email to Dubeau and am waiting for a reply. I am leaning toward not having the expansion gap between the rooms.

Thanks,

Bruce

Did I read this right? They now want a tradition piece between rooms of SOLID oak flooring? When I think of all the solid hardwood I have installed with no transitions.

I don't know what to say....

It's Canadian, sold at the big orange box. I don't know if its milled in Canada.

Yours was the better answer, thanks Nick....

Mea Culpa

Arrrgh. Forget this whole thing. I was looking at a diagram discussing floating engineered flooring. It did not apply to solid hardwood flooring.

My bad.

Thanks for the responses!

Bruce
