pics of BC Site Finished Floor
Hi, Since everyone was very helpful, I thought you might want to see the site finished floor (only see postings of issues and wondered what happened afterward) after they put down the 2nd coat of Aqua 1
Put some pictures out in photobucket that you could see if you wish.

Re: pics of BC Site Finished Floor
The big question Kathy are you happy and pleased with it? You are the supreme judge, and if you are happy we are tickled to death. Our little bit of help was well worth it.

Re: pics of BC Site Finished Floor
Thanks Tony and Tandy,
Learned a great deal through this process of putting down hardwood floors for sure.
The installer put the 1st coat of finish down with a gloss sheen (gguhh). I saw the finish in the garage the night before and let the installer know that was the wrong sheen (wanted satin). They still put it down and said "no problem, will put the 2nd coat down with satin".
Still too shiney for my taste and they mentioned putting down another coat of satin, but I do know that satin is not "matte" so should expect some shine.
Hats off to those of you that are able to intall, sand floors and put down any type of glossy finish. Any imperfections are magnified.
All said, the installer is backing his people's work and I am very glad that I found someone that knows problems could happen and will not leave a customer out in the cold.

Thanks. I continue to come to this site to learn new ways of doing things. Have been telling everyone I know about this site and shared it with my installer. he thinks it is great that I seek knowledge about hardwood flooring (

I was taught to use gloss under satin or matte finish... I think your guy knows his product well, and the finish job looks real nice.

Re: pics of BC Site Finished Floor
Yup, put down a gloss coat first and follow with the sheen of choice. Here's why, the gloss material contains more solids than a flat, satin or a semi gloss. More solids is a good thing unless an open grain natural look is required. The finish will look "deeper" with the gloss first coat also, a "trick" of custom furniture builders.
Good to hear that great success was born out of difficulty.

Re: pics of BC Site Finished Floor
Great information Flip. I wondered why gloss might be put down before the Satin. I do like the Vermeister Aqua Tenax, Aqua 1 finish on this Braz Cherry.
I tell ya, this installer really stood up to the manf when they were pushing back in replacing the floor. He even when to a different distributor to buy the new wood for my house, since they didn't seem to help in getting the manf to fix the problem.
Realize I was very lucky to have the installer that would do that even though it would mean money out of his own pocket (manf will eventually get around to paying him). All this from the installer when he wasn't at fault with the entire process.
Have a great week! Happy flooring

Re: pics of BC Site Finished Floor
Yes with all coats in satin, or matte, it get really cloudy. It is normal practice to apply gloss first.
