i lost my best friend
my dad died yesterday. after serving in vietnam and installing for 43years i guess he was ready to retire. i worked with my dad side by side for 17 years.. some good, some bad...but he taught me all i know about installing and life..he was more than a dad, he was my best friend. i will miss him severly.he always told me the only way a carpet installer retires is if he dies. after 43 years he now gets his retirement.

Al,
My deepest condolences to you and your family. It is amazing how the relationship changes when a father and a son wind up working together for so many years. In your case it ended up being more meaningful and that you can be very grateful.
Every time you walk onto a new project I guarantee you father will be there with you.
Rob

Al, I understand and share your grief. I also had the pleasure, displeasure and honor to work with my dad for close to 24 years. He has been gone almost 13 years and few days go by that I don't think about him. I still have that empty spot, but all of the good memories (and some photos and videos) remain and help fill them.
I always think back to the Mark Twain quote: "When I was 16, my old man was the dumbest SOB in the world. When I was 21, it amazed me what he had learned in the last five years."

Al,I'm so sorry for you and your family...I'm lucky enough to still have my Dad around. He's 85 and still kicking and I count my blessings for it. I lost my Mom about 4 years ago so I know how you feel. I know it's not much consolation now but the pain does fade somewhat. Hang in there.

My deepest condolenced Al. I think Perter said it best. I too had the pleasue, displeasure and honor to learn the trade from my dad and I am grateful to have learned such a wondeful trade from him. Tomorrow I will celebrate another Fathers Day with him and I hope I get a few more with him as his health is starting to fail. We will pray for you, your family and your dad in these difficult times.

Al, will be praying for you and your family. I know having talked to you many times I bet he was as proud of you as you are of him.
