Re: Installer & Inspector Workshop

Perhaps we could talk about a Standard Profile for Inspections.

Like a list of what items or issues to be looked at for each product. If the installers and retailers knew what we looked at they could be prepared beforehand.
Or is that giving away too much information>
Not a "checkbox" inspection but what I call my cheat sheet, so I don't forget and have to make a 200 mile trip because of my dumbness.

Re: Installer & Inspector Workshop

I think it would be a great idea for everyone to turn in some sort of resume before the workshop. Starting with:

Name (first, last)
Location (city, state, country)
Field of occupation (installer, inspector, retail, distributor ect...)
specialization (carpet, wood, laminate, ect...)
cerifications
yrs in occupation
phone numbers (home, work, cell)

This would be one priceless list everyone could have a copy of. I can't tell you how many times we have called Tandy for advice on install related problems, or David Hunt for retail and wool carpet advise. We could develop a network of installers, inspectors, and others that would be invaluable to everyone in a time of need.

I also suggest name tags be made up for the workshop. I beleive they will be good ice breakers, and make it easier for someone to approach you and begin a conversation.

Re: Installer & Inspector Workshop

Great ideas Danny. We need a committee to put this together. This is not a Tandy show. It is our workshop. Do you want to help select a cimmittee or do you want me to select one. I have only picked one moderator and it is for carpet inspector side and it is [a good guy]. All other areas are still open and I need your help getting moderators for them. However we first need the committee to put the program together.

That is the date we can get the facility for the workshop. Make a deal with mom that you will honor her a week early or a week late, her choice.

Danny Ferguson has stepped forward and said he will make the directory and name tags. Therefore, if you want to be listed in the directory ( I sure hope everyone does) and if you are going to attend the workshop (I sure hope everyone does) please email this information to Danny at donscarpetcenter@hotmail.com Thanks Danny for your help.

Re: Installer & Inspector Workshop

I have a big question. If inspection services want to attend this work shop do we allow them to attend and would this hamper the discussions about them. I feel this is one area that will be talked about. Your thoughts please.

Re: Installer & Inspector Workshop

I agree. It would not be fair to exclude other professionals just because you don't approve of their business model. Maybe what you do and say at the workshop will have a positive effect on the way they do business.

On the other hand, if an individual has a history of being disruptive and disorderly, then it would be best to not accept their registration. But there are those who we only know their online persona's and people do not always act the same way in person as they do online. The meeting facility no doubt has security personnel that can be called in a case of disturbance.

So far, it doesn't sound like this is going to be a symposium on how to run a successful independent inspection OR installation company. It is about gaining a better understanding of the installation and inspection process so that the two disciplines won't end up on each other's shit list. If some of those installers happen to work for a retailer or a workroom - or are the owner/manager of one - and they are allowed, why wouldn't an inspector who works for a company or service, or the service's owner or management have the same privilege of attending? I would think, like here at TFP, as long as everyone follows a few simple rules, it shouldn't be a problem if any flooring professional chooses to go.

It's an educational function. Let the teachers teach and the students learn. Tandy is the one who assigns the teaching positions. If a student becomes unruly, send them to the principals office.

Just my opinion.

Re: Installer & Inspector Workshop

I do not like the services, but, there is this sweet lady in Chicago who owns one with her husband, and we are friends,,, we keep our friendship away from professional issues, and are good friends in fact,,,, and she is pertty too! She reads here,,, , hi lady!
but, she is trying to fx me up with a friend who is moving south,,,, ummm, she must not like this woman deep down very much
anyway,,,, it would not be right to exclude them,,,,but, maybe one blanket rule for everyone,,,, durning the secessions, no one is allowed to promote thier biz, services, installers and inspectors,,, no one,,, and any promoting should be away from the site? I mean, while there, we should be networking and learning skills and knowledge others have,,,,, just an idea,,,, if not allowed to promote, maybe a few of these guys will not show up,,, and then, maybe they will,,,,
Ray for example, is one of those Mr. T talks about,,,, he actually behaves at events,,, while I get worse, yep, worse, Tandy already has told the Ok. State police to stop me and take away any weapons I may have,
slt

It's not the State Police you have to worry about. It's the (as Tandy refers to them as) the Barney One Bullets.

Re: Installer & Inspector Workshop

Jon and T make very good points and I agree with both. I think Selva makes a very good point about using the workshop to promote ones business. This is not the purpose of the workshop and will not be allowed. Who are your suggestons for members to serve on the committee?
