Danny and Jim submitted great mission statements. Both express our goals. I choose Jim's because it covered a wider group of flooring people.
I will be emailing some of you asking you to serve in various areas. Just say yes.

Re: Installer & Inspector Workshop

HOLY COW!

I have been aware of this thread for a while but have failed to look-in until tonight. I had to start from the beginning of course and when I saw there were four pages to read I thought I should jump in and get caught up. Each time I changed a page a new page popped up and it seems I’ve been reading for hours. I’m a slow reader.

After twelve pages I have finally got to a point that I can make a post. So here it is.

This “Tulsa Summit” is a great idea and we all agree it is badly needed. Most anything I could suggest has already been mentioned. I don’t think it would be a good idea to exclude anyone or any organization; hell they’ll mole in there anyway. Hopefully this will at the very least give all elements an opportunity to better understand everyone and one another’s issues. Face to face has a way of simmering differences and calming tempers.

I wouldn’t try to build a huge menu of topics at the first go around but instead simply test the interest, shake some hands, and determine if another session is warranted. Based on a (short list) of topics manufactured from this thread committees could then be selected for better organization of topics for a second meeting at a later date should it be felt the interest is there. I would consider the May meeting foreplay and nothing more.

I would love to meet some of the so-called movers and shakers of the industry but I wouldn’t be bowing down to anyone. If those guys really and truly want to give the impression that they “give of themselves” then let them pay the fee like everyone else and proceed to give of themselves. Tell them not to forget to wear their nametag.

One more thing then I’ll shut up for now. Well two more things. One: Count me in. Two: I think FCI Magazine should be represented at the Tulsa Summit. Sending an email of Good Wishes isn’t going to get it. BNP should offer up a live rep in person to cover the event and report on it. This rep should also bring his American Express card to help him show BNP’s appreciation for all of us loyal readers all these years.

OK, I’m lurking now.

Re: Installer & Inspector Workshop

Good idea about inviting FCI, Bud. I had planned to make contact with the BNP representatives, as well as other magazines, on my trip to Surfaces this year. I hope to be able to show them we have a large number of paid attendees, a confirmed list of speakers and the support of the hotel chain (via a prize package of 2 nights stay and meals for two) and some tool vendors for give-aways at the symposium. I'll also be handing out fliers to anyone I can at Surfaces, to give it more attention and perhaps increase enrollment. I think it would be great if we could get close to maximum capacity. It has big potential.

Re: Installer & Inspector Workshop

Someone mentioned running an ad in the BNP rags and that may be a good idea if the costs can be met without too much pain. But they (BNP) should also be willing to send a warm body to sit-in on site with the anticipation of running a small artical.

In the event this thing doesn't fly, what is Tandy's obligation to the reservation costs of the meeting facility and when can it be cancelled with the least amount of cost? I think a Go/No Go date-certain should be agreed upon. If expectations are not met by that date the whole idea should be ditched. Who will be responsible for any punitive costs of a cancellation of the facility?

Gotta go back to work!

One of the things I haven't seen discussed about the meeting is hotel sites near the area. Are there any and who are they. Kind of hard to spend a couple of days and no where to stay.

The hotel is within 2 miles of the votech campus, and there are many eating places near by.

Re: Installer & Inspector Workshop

Tandy and I have traded a few emails and we would like to start a steering committee immediately.

Some of the issues we are discussing now would be the first topics

Can we get some volunteers to serve? I'm thinking five to seven of us would not be to unwieldy to get some items pinned down and create some opportunities for others to step up too.

Please PM me ASAP if you can help. I promise we will keep the time commitment to a minimum!

Daris, I stayed at the Best Western in Tulsa last year. Very nice and clean hotel. Hotel next door (walking distance) has a bar in case anyone wants a beverage without driving. Casino nearby also.

Re: Installer & Inspector Workshop

I mentioned in an earlier post (I think it got moved) that Mike Currin had agreed to be the inspector moderator on the carpet side and that I had ask someone to be the moderator on the installer side. That person Daniel Westcott has now accepted the job to moderate the installer side. We have two very capable professionals taking care of the carpet side of the workshop. Email your comments or questions to be discussed to these men and get ready for some great discussions. We are now in the process of forming a committee to select the other moderators. Thank you to these men for taking the job.

Re: Installer & Inspector Workshop

I've had one brave soul volunteer for the steering committee and I am putting him to work already. Any others ready, willing and able? We want to be like the Marines: the few, the proud, the brave (and maybe the gullible ).
