Re: Installer & Inspector Workshop
Product suitability. Should retailers, installers and inspectors know in advance if a product they are selling, installing or inspecting is suitable or not for that particular job or situation?
I'm not talking about fashions, colors, aesthetics or budgets. What i mean is did this product have a prayer of performing before it was loaded on my truck.

Re: Installer & Inspector Workshop
for those of us who are extremely interested and would love to attend but can't.
(i am already taking off several weeks over the course of the year for other seminars, conventions, and vacation)
is there going to be any written summary of the discussions.
some of us might even pay for well formatted reference booklet.

Re: Installer & Inspector Workshop
Barry, we have had some consideration of taping or recording the sessions. No answer at this moment, but we are thinking about it. A written synopsis is a good idea but would require a significant time investment.
I'll put this on a list and it can be sent to committee (when we name one for this)

Re: Installer & Inspector Workshop
I have heard talk about a meeting like this for years and that's all it was...talk. I am excited to see not only the enthusiasm and support, but an actual date, location and time! This is truly a grass roots effort to initiate change, let's keep the momentum rolling!
Let's narrow this thing down a bit so we can focus on the topics that are of the most critical concern. What would the most important issues be on the installation side?
Then, aside from inspectors, who do we want to discuss the issues with? Mills and manufacturers, retailers, associations and organizations?
What do we want the outcome of the meeting to be? What kind of follow through will there be after the meeting is done?
Maybe we could create a poll of the top ten for the above items and go from there.
If we are going to have a meeting it must be structured and organized with a set of defined goals in order to get the best bang for the buck.

Re: Installer & Inspector Workshop
I just read through all of the posts on this topic. This sounds like a GREAT idea, BUT.... without structure, this seems to me, like it will be nothing more than a "shouting" session where everyone wants to get his/her point across. I understand that this is only a discussion of what "wants" to be put into this get together, but looking at it, realistically, how much of it will actually be put into it, and how much time will be spent on each subject? Will there be enough time for all these things to be gone through.
I cant say I will go, or wont go, until I know what the topics will be and the schedule for those topics. Are we all going to put in so much $$$$ for on site lunches? Or is everyone going out to lunch, only to have 1/2 of them come back cause they wanted to go elsewhere or felt they weren't getting enough time on their topic or their point is not heard, or they had too much to drink at lunch?
Don't get mad at me for stating the obvious here, but until actual curriculum gets written down, there are too many "if's" to state a go or no go for me.

Re: Installer & Inspector Workshop
Daniel and Woody you both make great comments and suggestons. This will not be a shouting match. I think a poll for the top 10 subject is a great idea. We have a committee working on the inital set up now, and they are open to all of your suggestons. The lunch will be catered on site and from what I understand it will be a working lunch. Hopefully I can get the catered lunchs worked into the $50.00 fee.
BTW the finances of the workshop will be completely transparent. Patrica Harts has agreed to handle the bookeeping of all expenses and revenue collected. Her email address is gharts@jw.net she has no figures now, because the only known expense it the meeting facility which I was able to get for $980.00 not the $1500.00 as originally quoted. I have signed a contract for this. As soon as money starts coming in Pat will tell anyone that asks the current financial status of the workshop.
Peter, would you please announce the mommittee along with their email address so the installers and inspectors can also send suggestons and questons to them.
Woody thank you for your frank and correct statements. There are probably many that have not responded because of the unknown. Keep the good stuff coming.

Re: Installer & Inspector Workshop
I would certainly hope and expect that the people that are going to spend money (travel, hotel) are going to be professional about this. A lot more can be accomplished talking to one another as opposed to a shouting match. There will no doubt be some differences of opinions but isn't this what it is all about, to try to work out the differences and educate each other.

Re: Installer & Inspector Workshop
As with any meeting that I have ever attended like this is to be it get out of hand very quickly with people trying to talk over the next person. It is really hard to stop. Another thing it is very easy to get off on a tangent and another subject .
I know that I would like to be there but I'm like others I can't plan that far ahead at this time. If nothing else just to harass my friend Dan Westcott.

Re: Installer & Inspector Workshop
So far in addition to Tandy and myself, RGFloor, Bud Cline, and Darwin have stepped up to help on the steering committee. A few email have been traded with a tentative schedule put together. Lots of blanks and questions still remain which means there is room for more folks to help out during planning
I'm hoping to flesh out a few more items and have somethings to post for a poll on topics later in the week. A schedule should follow pretty quickly after that.
We are trying to follow up on all the great comments and suggestions that have come in as posts on this thread and progress is being made behind the scenes.

Remember the "We Are The World" song? All of the Artists involved were told to keep your ego at the door. That should be the theme of this meeting.

Re: Installer & Inspector Workshop
I would like to believe like Chris that if someone who is going to pay out of their pockets and spend time to attend should be professional. Now someone who went on the company at no cost to them and also being there on a salary???
