Re: Installer & Inspector Workshop
since not all installers may be able to attend, may I offer a serious suggestion, contact the ones who may not know about it, arrange a meeting at a distributorship or your backyard for a few beers or cokes, and get thier ideas to represent them there.

I like that too Nick.
For you guys who think I am naive... I'm a little bit smarter than I portray myself to be. Since when is this all about CFI , the NWFA, or any other organization? As an independent installer I have never viewed inspectors as my ememy... far from it .
As far as someone or a certain group going into attack mode... who gives a flying flip? .... that would be like a pesky nat... no big deal.
I will say this though. The farther away the administration stays away from this the more chance of success it will have. The perceived attackers are not members here and they have their own personal agendas and will distort many things...just my opinion.

Re: Installer & Inspector Workshop
Lets have a workshop for installers and inspectors to come together and work on issues that impact each. Installers presenting problems that are common to them and inspectors presenting problems that are common to them. Each gaining a better understanding of each others work and work practices.

To the best of my knowledge Mr. Reeves has no enemies or people with hidden agendas. From reading all this some members are concerned about being attacked ... why invite more attacks because of issues that have nothing to do with Tandy's idea.?

We've already gotten past that, Jerry. But I am still curious about this statement:

Re: Installer & Inspector Workshop
I am going out Monday or Tuesday and try to rent space for the workshop. With the interest shown and the number of topics to cover, I think it will be necessary to have at least one night session. Start giving suggestons for topic starter speakers (one installer & one inspector). The topic starters would also moderate that session. I suggest the topic starters be limited to no more than 5 min. opening remarks and then the participants making statements or asking questions be limited to 2 min. (maybe 3). This way no soap box speeches will be made and more people can participate. There is a good chance we will not be able to cover everything we plan. Therefore, lets put the subjects and issues in priority order and if we run out of time at least we will have covered the most important subjects.
The mission statement suggestons are looking good, keep them coming. We want to get the introduction page done as soon as possible so the information can go out the trade publications, and any other place we can put them. After that we will put the program together and gather material for the workshop workbook. I have already received a couple of bad inspection reports. BTE all names and addresses should be marked out on all documents submited. We are not here to hang any individual just to learn and do better work.

Re: Installer & Inspector Workshop
Installer what is the most difficult act you must perform before and during an installation? You choose the floor covering.
Inspectors what is the most prominate installation failure you see? You choose the floor covering.
How should installers and inspectors react with each other when on the jobsite together

Re: Installer & Inspector Workshop
ok,
warning given,
past history discussed,
I ranted and raved,
I have a lot of work this week with only four days to do,
can I offer a suggestion, as Jerry suggest, lets move on,
One topic I think is the most important will be to find out exactly, from lawyers or ask an opinion from various state att. generals what rights installers have to be on site and monitor inspectors inspecting their work,,,,
and along that same line teach installers how to document installation procedures in case of possible complaints, and how to document problems that are defective material or difficult to work with material to keep the claims bugger off their backs,

Re: Installer & Inspector Workshop
I agree with the documentation. I have seen this so much especially in fast track homes. Builders do not want to wait for a wood floor to properly acclimate. Get it done they say. Usually the installer/retailer fold so they do not piss off the builder. Get everything in writing. If the builder says get that floor done then he should be responsible for that floor because he did not want to wait for it to properly acclimate. Have wavers signed. Waiver of reponsibility can be purchased from NWFA if i am not mistakes. Or have one drawn up by a lawyer.

Re: Installer & Inspector Workshop
what happens there many times with waviers and such or can happen is a judge will rule that as the flooring professional and going ahead with the work means the installer/contractor accepted responsiblity for it,,,,
and, I just don't think the one from NWFA is good enough,,,no disrepsect to them,

Re: Installer & Inspector Workshop
Here is another good subject to handle at the workshop. However, if you do not have an attorney or do not wish to spend the money for one to write you a waiver the one from NWFA will do. Be very specific when writing it up and be very sure the witness to the signing of the document is someone you can get in touch with later (get phohe numbers and addreses). A foreman, superentendent, home owner, realtor, etc Remember part of something is better than all of nothing. If the party in charge of the property will not sign the waiver and the dealer insists you install the floor covering, have the dealer sign the waiver thus accepting the responsibility if the floor fails. Remember he is supposidly as professional as you are.
