Reports from the front: Installer-Inspector Workshop
"Reports from the front: Installer-Inspector Workshop," in the Industry Training & Organizations forum, begins: "Some of it is retailers' fault, too. I worked for several big retailers in the KC area over the years ..."
Re: Reports from the front: Installer-Inspector Workshop
Some of it is retailers' fault, too. I worked for several big retailers in the KC area over the years including the biggest one. We received no info from any of them when new products came out. Their philosophy was: just get it down. If there is a problem, we'll take care of it later. According to a friend who still works there, it hasn't changed.
Re: Reports from the front: Installer-Inspector Workshop
I am bumping this thread because I need help finding David Colbey's address. He is the only one I don't have an address for. If someone knows him, or knows his address, please let me know.
Re: Reports from the front: Installer-Inspector Workshop
I might have it at home but I am currently in Houston until Saturday. David and I exchanged cards in Tulsa. Hopefully someone else can help you out before I get home.
Re: Reports from the front: Installer-Inspector Workshop
Thanks, Roland. I can wait 'til tomorrow.
Sorry, Rusty, I don't know anything about this guy except his name - and I'm not even sure I'm spelling it right. No shortage of David Colbey's at that link though, so that's a good sign I guess.

Roland Believe it or not but you and I sent David's address at the same time. I sent it by pm and you posted it.
Great minds think alike. Boy are you in trouble if that is true.
Re: Reports from the front: Installer-Inspector Workshop
Yeah, great minds. I wish I had one. I printed up the certificate as "David Colbey." Where did I get that name? I guess this means we need someone in charge of registrations and that person needs to report to whoever does the certificates.
I can fix this, but it means a trip 80 miles one way to Reno to have a new certificate printed (this ain't reg'lar printing paper by a long shot). I can't drive 160 miles just for a 2 dollar certificate, so it will have to wait for my next doctor's appointment middle of next week.
Re: Reports from the front: Installer-Inspector Workshop
Nah, their quality control is pitiful. I had to have the original batch done twice (first run was washed out and streaky like it was running out of ink) and then 3 of the second run had to be done over because of spots. I have to go to Reno for treatments every week, so I might as well do it in person.

Holycow look at all those old people, look's like a bus trip to atlanta!
Just kidding, I'm only 22 but I'm sure if I stick around I'll learn a thing or two haha.
Jason if Tulsa wasn't so far away from me, I live in New Zealand, I would have made another old face there. I am 61. What the flooring trade needs is some young faces getting involved with these "old" people. The trouble with life the"old" people are trying to put something back into the flooring trade to make it better for everyone. The "old people can probably delegate jobs to others so they can make the time and personal cost to themselves to be able attend meetings like this whereas the younger ones are more likely to have a young family to support and big mortgages to pay making it very difficult for them to attend. If you ever get the chance to get together with the "old" guys just sit there and listen when they are having a few beers. All the funny, stupid things they have done will come out. You will have a real laugh. One of the guys I work with now, I lay vinyl he lays carpet, worked for the same firm 40 odd years ago on wages and the stupid things we, and the other layers of that time, used to get up to still create a good laugh with the other layers that we work with now and of coarse their stories come up
