heat welding
I would like to learn more about and how to heat weld.
Who offers the best training most comprehensive training?
Most of the commercial sheet installs were 6 ft goods, installed as walkways and insets for desk chairs etc. so needless to say heat welding was never an issue.
I have recently been asked about doing some repairs and I had to turn them down because they needed to be heat welded.

Re: heat welding
i got my by On the job training , but it was years ago. Each material has its own quirks, tempature , speed, welding tip, for example forbo has its own system for welding and specs for grove depth. as well as methods for shaving cord. to my knowledge armstrong still has a class as well.

Re: heat welding
Ken, I am going to Nora at the end of February. Heat welding is part of the training. As it was said, different products have different specs.

Re: heat welding
Good points by all. Chris, bear in mind with rubber you will nev3er be able to achieve the heats needed to truly vulcanize it. Similar in many ways to linoleum where it is more of a heat caulking than a melting and fusing of the material like PVC or other vinyls. Still curious to know if Gunther is still their tech guru. He is (was?) top notch.

Re: heat welding
Ken just a thought but I'm sure I could talk my buddy into it if you wanted to tag along and split gas cost between the three of us.

Re: heat welding
I am supposed to do a heat weld job the 21st, it will be my first time, but I am a quick learner. I figure I will see how it goes, I have another guy that did heat welds for years, it will basically be hands on, then improve. My first instinct is to walk from this job, but i already said i would do it if possible.

Re: heat welding
No matter what course you take, you are only going to learn the basic techiques. The 'hands on' is absolutely necessary!!!!!!
Do like CP says......this time

Re: heat welding
I very much agree Barry, but I hope that learning the basics will be a good start in learning to do it correctly. Since I have no experience with welding, this sounds like a good in expensive way to start learning it correctly

Re: heat welding
Lick your finger to hold the weld when you start against the wall. Preferably a clean finger
If welding Marmo do not put your finger on it at all. Finger will stick to weld licked or not
Most of important listen to CP this time
