I would rather see tighter standards for manufacturing patterned carpet (especially with a SMALL pattern). In the end, the better the product is to work with the better it's going to look.
get the product manufactures to get their standards right then we can go from there

Re: What would you change about the carpet installation standards?

That is a noble thought, but in the mills eyes "if it is not broke why fix it". In their minds they produce carpet not install it. Change does not come from the top down, but from the bottom up.

This is a big part of what we have been talking about here. With organized certified installers higher rates can be charged and paid for difficult work that the hack cannot do.

We have had many posts on this topic, and not one mill has offered their opinion. So if change is to come about it MUST start with us. BTW it is not going to happen over night, it is going to face objections, many it cannot be done, and it won't work in the small markets, it will not work in the large markets, and a truck load of other excuses.

Only one or two of us cannot do it, but together we can. Also, if we wait until later it never gets here.

I do not understand why so few installers and inspectors have entered into this discussion. It may be that there is no interest in this and it should be shut down. Please forgive me for being so passionate about this. I agree I do not have a dog in the fight, but would love to see the installers raise their lot in the industry.
