Lead paint rules, will anyone obey them?
Watched a contractor change windows in my next door neighbors house yesterday. The house has peeling paint, is over 100 years old and they have small children. They put down no plastic and weren't even wearing masks. Do you think anyone will pay any attention to the lead paint rules? I mean in the real world.

Why would they? Nobody even follows manufacturer directions on product installs.

Manufacturers give directions? Is that what that miniscule print says?

I haven't heard a darn thing about them around here and if it weren't for these boards I wouldn't have either. I highly doubt anyone will give this much thought in our area...until it becomes an asbestos type deal with lots of fear surrounding it.

I called the EPA in Helena a couple of weeks ago to find out about training in Montana. Left a message on an answering machine. A few days later a guy called and I asked him about it and he didn't know but would find out. He called back and said someone in Denver is in charge of our training. I have since learned from a couple of painters that they did do a training class in Montana but he said it was expensive. The person in Denver hasn't called me yet.

Can someone tell me why so many people on this forum are interested in lead pain training. How is it going to effect us flooring installers?

Look, somewhere down the line someone has to make a stand and say enough is enough. We will all die we might as well get use to it. I personally am tired of everyone crying wolf.

actually, I remember now seeing a flyer a couple months ago for a lead paint seminar in Kalispell. Other than that I don't think anyone has given it a second look down here. I know that none of the flooring stores care about it, that's for sure.

What about scraping paint off a concrete slab to glue down vinyl? Pulling old quarter round off of cabinets. Under cutting door jams, just to name what comes on my mind. In this economy here it is remodeling mostly now which is in older homes.

You forgot to mention all the lead dust that falls off window sills into the carpet. ............and when an installer removes the carpet improperly, the dust will float out any open doors and windows killing all the neighbors pets and contaminating their organic gardens.
Just jokin KW. You have some valid points. We need information czars, not lead police and certifications.
See how poorly the current lead information has been passed along? Even today, most installers have never heard of it. Makes one think that the EPA is just in it for the money............. heck, they can't even figure out a way to get the information out to those they intend to fine.
