Fiberock supplier needed
Our supplier of Fiberock underlayment, grount and other ceramic tile accessories suddenly went out of business. We are looking for alternative suppliers for these materials in the eastern PA or western NJ area.

Re: Fiberock supplier needed
Why look for another supplier of junk?
Why not use a better quality underlayment?

Re: Fiberock supplier needed
Any product that ain't primarily gypsum based.
Hey did you notice you can use the stuff over 24" OC joist.
I'm going to run right out and do more crap work because some manufacturer wants to lower the quality of installs just so they can make more sales.
Ken when you get a few more years under your belt you will soon realize that there is always someone making claims about their product being the next best thing since sliced bread and "they've never had any problems" yada yada yada
There is also plenty of people who claim the same thing. Same type who allowed the use of mastic on greenboard in showers for ceramic tile. Wasn't that stuff water resistant? Yep I'm going to believe USG once again.

Re: Fiberock supplier needed
I believe we need to clear the air on something. On page 10 of the TCNA Handbook they list backer boards broken down by type or family.
The prevalent type of backer board we are all accustomed to using is a CBU (Cementitious backer unit) which requires a wet bed of thinset underneath. Such brand names as Durock, Wonderboard, ect. Hardibacker classifies itself as a CBU and a "Fiber-Cement Underlayment" .
Another type of backer board is "Fiber-Reinforced Water-Resistant Gypsum Backer Board/Underlayment. Fiberock would go in this category I think.
To make a long story short ....Fiberock is not considered a CBU. Don't get the several types of backer boards confused. Each family of "backer boards" have their own ASTM and ANSI standards we need to look up and follow as to how it goes down and what type of thinset to use over it.
carry on

Re: Fiberock supplier needed
Premier,
I think you're referring to Hoboken? I'm not positive but try to contact an area rep., Kim Stewart from NY at 800-552-9785. She is the rep or can direct you to another distributor.
For the record, I don't think much of the product either, but should work fine as long as it's installed as directed by USG. I think some of the problems are from not following the rules, like no thinset under for tile installs. Or using it in wet areas. I used to use Durock when I needed a tile backer.
By the way, I have been able to help a few old customers find certain tiles they used to buy from Hoboken recently. They were looking for a tile made by Monocibec which I have and shipped to them.

Hi Jaz,
You're brand new to posting. The forum software assigns a "title" based on message count, but you can change it to something you want instead.
Thanks for posting your first - and second message.
